Getting to know Deborah Kraidman

My professional view of counseling is that it is a journey of self-exploration by the client, using therapy as a guide to self-understanding and self-awareness. As a marriage and family therapist with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Long Island University, Brooklyn, I use the skills I have learned and developed throughout my education and clinical experience to facilitate growth in my clients. I am not an expert in any of my clients’ lives, but I strive to learn who they are from them and allow them to make decisions for themselves. I allow the client to guide the session so we can talk about the deep-rooted problems when they are ready and tackle the daily struggles that cause anxiety and depression. I use talk therapy as a means of bringing dialogue and relationships to the forefront of the session. Reviewing presenting problems, past therapy experiences, and their goals will determine which theory or framework to use moving forward. In my experience, DBT, CBT, ACT, SFT, and Motivational Interviewing have proven to be successful among my clients. I remain empathetic, supportive, and validating through each session and applaud clients as they grow and learn. Whether the goals are big or small, we will tackle each one and the obstacles that may arise. My philosophy is to teach each client that they are worthy of unconditional acceptance regardless of anything that would lead them to think otherwise.

I am so happy I finally did this! This is my first experience getting therapy and I've never had in-person sessions, but virtual ones are very convenient w full time work and small kids. The therapist, Deborah Kraidman, is great. The journey has not been easy but very very necessary.
