Deirdee Hurst, NP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
GA
I bring seven years of nursing experience to my role as a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My professional background includes inpatient psychiatric care, crisis intervention, critical care, hospice, case management, and outpatient healthcare. These experiences have strengthened my ability to recognize the connection between emotional, psychological, and physical health. Having cared for individuals during some of life's most challenging moments, I understand the importance of treating the whole person rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis. My clinical approach combines evidence-based psychiatric assessment, medication management when appropriate, therapeutic communication, and individualized treatment planning. I strive to build trusting relationships with my patients through active listening, empathy, education, and shared decision-making. I want every patient to feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their mental health journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Mental health care should fit your life, not the other way around. I offer compassionate, judgment-free psychiatric care with flexible evening and after-work appointments. With seven years of nursing experience, I take a therapeutic, relatable approach to helping individuals manage anxiety, depression, and life's emotional challenges. My philosophy is simple: You deserve to be heard, understood, and supported—not rushed through an appointment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to mental health care is personalized, therapeutic, and collaborative. I believe building a trusting relationship is essential to achieving meaningful progress. Our journey begins with a comprehensive **90-minute initial psychiatric evaluation**, where I take the time to understand your concerns, personal history, symptoms, and treatment goals. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, therapeutic support, and practical coping strategies. Following the initial evaluation, we typically meet **once a week for three weeks**, with each session lasting approximately **60 minutes**. These visits allow us to monitor your progress, address challenges, and make adjustments as needed. After the initial three weeks, appointments generally transition to **every other week**, depending on your individual needs and progress. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you feel heard, supported, and empowered. I also offer flexible evening and after-work appointments because I understand that prioritizing your mental health shouldn't mean putting the rest of your life on hold.
