Dejena Lherisson-Howell, MSN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
TX
I am Dejena Howell, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who believes that you deserve to feel heard, respected, and involved in your care. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other mental health concerns. Whether you are seeking support for the first time or continuing treatment, my goal is to help you understand your symptoms and find a path forward that fits your life. My nursing background includes hospice care and clinical leadership, where I have supported patients and families through illness, grief, caregiving, and difficult transitions. My psychiatric training included caring for patients across the lifespan with a wide range of mental health needs. These experiences shape my approach: I consider the whole person, including your physical health, relationships, culture, and daily responsibilities. I offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and individualized medication management. Together, we will discuss treatment options, your preferences, and what you hope to achieve. I welcome questions and value honest conversations about what is working and what needs to change. As a Black woman and healthcare professional, I appreciate the importance of culturally responsive care and a space where you can speak openly without judgment. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We can begin where you are and work toward meaningful progress together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means having a space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and take an active role in your mental health care. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I take time to understand you as a person—your concerns, strengths, daily challenges, and goals. During our first visit, we’ll discuss your symptoms, medical and mental health history, and any previous treatment experiences. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. Bringing a list of your medications and any questions can be helpful.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Together, we’ll develop an individualized treatment plan. If medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss its potential benefits, side effects, and alternatives so you can make informed decisions. Follow-up visits give us time to review your progress and adjust your care as needed. My goal is for you to leave feeling respected, supported, and clearer about your next steps.
