“Dr Flynn was very polite, a great listener and kept me on the same medications I wanted to be on. I had to find a new doctor to see in person because the rules are getting stricter on telehealth now due to the FDA. His receptionist Evan was so nice and helpful and he really deserves a good review too. I got the medications I needed and I am very satisfied and will keep seeing this doctor. ”

“Dr. Scot was the first to diagnose me with the correct mental illness after 10 years of misdiagnoses and incorrect treatment plans. He has worked with me while we find the correct treatment plan as my body doesn't handle a lot of medications well due to side effects. He always listens and never makes me feel crazy or down about myself like some other psychs I have experienced.”

Getting to know Denis Flynn

"I wish I had done this years ago." Often, this is the first thing my patients say when they return for their second visit. The harsh reality is that emotional struggles continue to be stigmatized and shamed. It's no wonder there is such reluctance to taking psychiatric medications. If we had significant pain from an injury, most of us would seek professional help without hesitation. So why are we so hesitant to seek help when our thoughts, moods, and feelings have gone awry? The brain is an organ, and like any other physiological system, it can require some fine tuning from time to time. Whether you or a loved one has been under the grips of anxiety, depression, difficulty sleeping, or simply sub-optimal functioning, we can have an open, honest discussion about whether medication is the right answer. Throughout my 14 years in psychiatry, I have had no greater joy than seeing my patients improve. It’s never too late to get better. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Long Island University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of San Diego, which have provided a strong foundation for my approach to patient care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is based in the medical model, yet tailored to the individual based on his or her needs. I believe in asking all the right questions, collecting everything from detailed lifelong events, to family history as well. I like to know if you've had experience with medications, and what treatment regimens have worked or failed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Let's sit down and chat. I am very interested to know you first as an individual in need, and then as a patient so that we can formulate a clinical diagnosis and plan of care. For many individuals, this can be overwhelming, frightening, yet often a huge relief! "My life makes sense all of a sudden." "I've always known there was something wrong, but now I have an answer." I pride myself on offering a comfortable atmosphere, free of judgements or biases so that we reach the proper diagnosis and begin an evidence-based treatment plan. The goal in my treatment is maximizing one's potential and improving day to day functionality. I do offer virtual appointments, I just ask that the first appointment be done in person. This is done as the first visit is extremely important at establishing what actions we need to take to give the best possible care. Once a year, I would like to meet with you once in person, but other than that every appointment can be virtual unless other I wise request it. Starting June 15th I will be joining the team at to Westlake Psychiatry. Due to this change, I will be moving my current office to this new location. At this practice, I will be joining an outstanding group of physicians and staff. I will continue caring for all my patients, however, now I will have additional support to serve you all better. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at your earliest convenience.
