Dennies Jones, APRN

Dennies Jones, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
MA
I am a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and aunt—and like many of the individuals I care for, I wear many hats and have faced deeply personal challenges along the way. My own journey with postpartum depression and seasonal affective disorder opened my eyes to the gaps in our mental health system—especially the lack of holistic and lifestyle-based care options. Too often, the focus is solely on medication, while the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of healing are overlooked. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, my greatest fulfillment comes from connecting with patients and walking alongside them through their healing, especially witnessing the joy of remission and renewed purpose. These experiences have shaped my commitment to an integrative approach to psychiatry—one that honors the whole person: mind, body, and soul. At Lumina Mental Wellness, I’m proud to offer compassionate, personalized care that goes beyond prescriptions. Whether it's through mindful lifestyle changes, nutrition, therapy, or medication when needed, my goal is to build healthy, meaningful relationships with patients and provide a space where true, lasting wellness can begin. I’m honored to walk with you on your journey toward clarity, balance, and healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

??????? My Style I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can speak freely and be met with empathy and respect. I blend structured guidance with compassionate listening, ensuring you feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow at your own pace. ?? Therapeutic Approach I draw from several therapeutic frameworks to create a personalized plan for each client: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you challenge unhelpful thought patterns Solution-Focused Therapy for building practical tools and immediate change Integrative Psychiatry that considers nutrition, sleep, stress, and lifestyle in your mental health Medication Management when needed, always discussed openly and collaboratively If you're coming in for a psychiatric evaluation, we’ll begin with a deep dive into your history, current symptoms, and life context. Together, we’ll develop a tailored treatment plan—whether that includes therapy, medication, lifestyle shifts, or a combination.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

?? Initial Psychiatric Evaluation (60–75 minutes) Your first session is all about understanding you. We’ll take a deep dive into your: Mental health history and current concerns Medical and family background Sleep, nutrition, and lifestyle habits Emotional patterns, triggers, and coping strategies I may ask structured questions to better understand symptoms related to conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, or mood disorders. If relevant, we’ll explore autism evaluations (CARS-2, RAADS-R, AQ) or screenings for trauma and substance use. This session also includes time to discuss diagnoses (if applicable), answer your questions, and co-create a treatment plan that aligns with your goals. ?? Follow-Up Appointments (30–45 minutes) Follow-up sessions are focused on: Monitoring medication response and side effects Exploring life events, challenges, and emotional shifts Tracking progress toward your goals Making adjustments to your plan as needed I often incorporate brief therapeutic interventions into sessions, such as: Solution-focused questions to promote clarity and confidence Mindfulness techniques to manage anxiety or overwhelm While I do not offer traditional weekly psychotherapy at this time, my approach is relational and therapeutic. You’ll always be met with empathy, clinical insight, and a deep respect for your journey. ?? A Collaborative Approach to Healing Whether you’re new to psychiatric care or transitioning from another provider, know that your voice matters. I see myself as a partner in your wellness—here to provide clinical expertise, compassionate support, and evidence-based guidance.
