More about Dr. Dennis Popeo, MD
I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for adults of all ages, and provide individual psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. I do not identify with or exclusively use any one modality of treatment but believe in working collaboratively with my patients and, when appropriate, with members of their support systems.
I currently serve as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine and as the Unit Chief of the Medical / Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at Bellevue Hospital, the major clinical affiliate of NYU. My work with very complex patients at Bellevue has refined my expertise in psychopharmacology and other modalities of treatment, while teaching students at the School of Medicine has given me insight into the minds of high performers placed in stressful and burnout-inducing situations.
After our initial meeting, we will work together to come up with a comprehensive plan to address your needs with a mixture of coaching, therapy and, if warranted, medications. I believe in transparency and sometimes bluntness while we focus on the thoughts, feelings, habits, and patterns of behavior that are holding you back from achieving your personal and professional goals. My goal is to put you firmly on the path to a more fulfilling and productive life.
On a more personal note, I was born and raised in upstate New York, graduated from Union College and received my M.D. from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. I completed a psychiatry residency and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine (a field that specializes in treating mental and behavioral health problems in those with medical illnesses).

Excellent, sympathetic, knowledgeable, professional. Dr.Popeo is the best! The first time I saw him he prescribed perfectly, and when I needed a "tune-up" he did it again.
