I am a Cornell-trained adult psychiatrist with twenty years of experience working with individuals who operate at a high level across business, medicine, technology, the arts, and competitive athletics. My practice is intentionally limited, allowing for longer appointments, direct communication, and a focused private-medical setting.
I was selected for an accelerated BA/MD medical program — a highly competitive pathway combining undergraduate and medical training — before completing residency at Weill Cornell Medical Center. I completed fellowship training at NYU and have held faculty appointments at Columbia University and NYU. My work has been recognized with national awards for excellence in medical education.
My approach emphasizes clarity, sound judgment, and continuity. I work with patients who value a thoughtful, steady process and a psychiatrist comfortable engaging with complexity and responsibility.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am a Board-Certified, Cornell-trained Adult Psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience practicing psychiatry in New York City. I offer discreet, evidence-based psychiatric care grounded in thorough, thoughtful assessment and individualized treatment planning, with a focus on sustained, long-term outcomes and close collaboration with each patient.
My practice includes adults from a broad range of cultural and professional backgrounds, including executives, entrepreneurs, technologists, artists and entertainers, athletes, academics, medical professionals, students and recent graduates, and full-time parents. I welcome and support clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and across the full spectrum of sexual identities.
I treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress-related difficulties, and substance overuse. I also frequently work with individuals who are new to psychiatric care and have a particular interest in men’s mental health.
I offer both virtual and in-person appointments at my conveniently located office in the Flatiron District.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
The initial appointment is a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation. We review relevant history, current concerns, and goals, and establish a clear plan moving forward. Follow-up sessions are 45 minutes and scheduled according to clinical need — from weekly to every few months.
I do not offer brief medication-only visits. Longer sessions allow for careful diagnosis, thoughtful treatment adjustments, and continuity of care.
I collaborate with outside therapists when appropriate and integrate elements of psychodynamic therapy, CBT, interpersonal therapy, and ACT as needed.
My fees are comprehensive: patients have direct access between sessions and can expect timely responses. There are no additional charges for communication or routine administrative needs.

Dr. Gupta is an amazing psychiatrist. He makes you feel at ease when talking to him and doesn’t pressure you or make you feel like you have to talk about certain issues when you’re not ready. He carefully goes over the “why” behind any medication he recommends and always checks in when he’s prescribed a new medication. I highly recommend him to anyone and I will continue to see him.

Dr. Gupta is one of the best psychiatrists I've worked with (and I've seen a few). His approach is far more holistic and patient than simply prescribing meds. He provides such a safe space and I find he is just as good of a listener and as insightful as any talk therapist, while truly trying to find the best treatment all around. Anuj Gupta is excellent. He is extremely knowledgable about psychopharmacology, psychiatry, and mental health in general. He is thorough when evaluating new patients and formulating a treatment plan. (For example, he asks you to bring in a list of every medication you've ever taken, something that, in my experience, surprisingly few practitioners do.) He is also a very good communicator, both in sessions and in between via email. I highly recommend his practice and am glad to have found it.
