Desiree Perkins, CCC - SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist
MI
Hi! I'm Desiree. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2024. I became an SLP because I was drawn to the impact communication has in someone's life to feel connected and empowered. Becoming an SLP for me meant I had the opportunity to be a part of a person's journey by providing them at times life-altering services that impact themselves and indirectly their loved ones too, which is what makes a career in speech-language pathology so rewarding. In addition, to be a service provider that can advocate for the voiceless or assist an individual to find their own voice in the literal and rhetorical sense is deeply fulfilling. I am honored to be in a career that can believe, support, and service people in who they are and where they have the potential to be. I have worked in private practices and daycares. I have certifications and trainings in the following: Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) trained, MoCA certified, MBsimP trained. Research presentation speaker at FLASHA 2022, "Reframing Therapy: Supporting Neurodivergent Clients". I would describe my clinical style as client-centered, individualized/personalized, strengths-based, sensory integrated and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.
