Getting to know Devon Zafuto

My name is Devon Zafuto, PA-C, and I am a Certified Psychiatric Physician Assistant at AIM: Advaita Integrated Medicine in Chapel Hill. I have worked in psychiatry and addiction medicine since 2022, treating individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-occurring substance use concerns. I am deeply committed to patient-centered care. I understand the important role trauma can play in both addiction and mental health conditions, and I work to thoughtfully connect past experiences with present symptoms. I believe education is a critical part of treatment, and I enjoy helping patients better understand their diagnoses and options so they can make informed decisions about their care. I am proud to serve the local LGBTQIA+ community and strive to create an affirming, respectful, and collaborative environment for every patient I see. I view people as complex and multifaceted, not defined by a diagnosis. I place strong value on the clinician-patient relationship and recognize how much it influences recovery and long-term outcomes. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology from North Carolina State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Physiology from NC State. I later completed my Master’s in Clinical Medical Science at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where I was inducted into the Pi Alpha Honor Society for outstanding character and leadership. I am also a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA). Raised near Raleigh, I am proud to serve the community I call home.
