Dezerae Elsen, NP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CO
I’m Dezerae Elsen, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and the founder of Elevate Psychiatry & Counseling. My background includes nursing, military medicine, and advanced psychiatric practice. These experiences have shaped my appreciation for the complexity of human behavior, the importance of resilience, and the many ways life experiences influence mental health. I work with individuals navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, OCD, trauma-related concerns, and other challenges that can affect emotional well-being and everyday functioning. I have a particular interest in understanding the intersection of neurobiology, lived experience, and the patterns that shape how we think, feel, and relate to the world. My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric care with genuine curiosity, compassion, and respect for each person’s individuality. I believe good treatment begins with understanding the whole person, not simply identifying symptoms or assigning a diagnosis. I value open communication, shared decision-making, and helping patients develop a deeper understanding of themselves while building practical tools for meaningful, sustainable change. I strive to create an environment where patients feel comfortable being honest, asking questions, and exploring difficult experiences without fear of judgment. I believe there is room for both science and humanity in mental health care, and that meaningful progress happens when the two work together. At Elevate, my guiding philosophy is simple: Where Science Honors the Soul.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At Elevate Psychiatry & Counseling, my approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe meaningful mental health care begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood - not judged or defined by a diagnosis. My style is conversational and supportive, while also being thoughtful, direct, and intentional. I take time to understand the person behind the symptoms, including their experiences, relationships, environment, strengths, and challenges. I consider the interconnected nature of mental, emotional, and physical health rather than viewing symptoms in isolation. Appointments may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and practical strategies to help you better understand yourself and navigate everyday challenges. I value shared decision-making and believe treatment should be individualized, with space for questions, honest conversations, and meaningful collaboration. My goal is not simply symptom reduction, but helping you develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and a stronger sense of agency in your life. Where Science Honors the Soul.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Where Science Honors the Soul. At Elevate Psychiatry & Counseling, we believe meaningful mental health care begins with seeing the whole person - not simply a collection of symptoms or diagnoses. The initial appointment is an opportunity to explore your mental health history, current concerns, experiences, strengths, and treatment goals. Together, we develop a comprehensive understanding of what you’re experiencing and identify an individualized treatment approach grounded in clinical evidence and your unique needs. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring progress, evaluating treatment effectiveness, discussing concerns or side effects, and making adjustments when appropriate. Medication management is approached thoughtfully and collaboratively, with an emphasis on education, shared decision-making, and evidence-based care. We believe meaningful change begins with a foundation of safety, awareness, and understanding. Our approach honors the complexity of human experience while recognizing the important relationship between the mind, body, and lived experience. There is no one-size-fits-all path to mental wellness. Our goal is to create a collaborative, compassionate space where science and humanity meet, supporting greater stability, self-understanding, and lasting growth.
