About Dr. Diego Lugo

Dr. Diego Lugo Baruqui is a board-certified internal medicine physician who graduated summa cum laude with his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Facultad de Medicina, in Guadalajara, México. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL, and he later served as Chief Medical Resident. Currently, Dr. Lugo is a Core Faculty member for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he is actively involved in the education and mentorship of residents and medical students as an academic hospitalist. He also holds clinical educator appointments with Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University, and New York Medical College. Dr. Lugo’s clinical interests span hospital medicine, preventive and longevity medicine, cardiovascular medicine, clinical education, and research. He has co-authored multiple publications and presented over a dozen research posters on topics such as structural heart disease, acute coronary syndromes, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, cancer prevention, use of platelet rich plasma for autoimmune conditions among many others. His academic achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the Pfizer Scientific Institute National Award of Medicine and the Chief Resident Award from the American College of Physicians (ACP). In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Lugo serves as a peer reviewer and judge for research competitions with the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, and the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.

I booked with Dr. Diego an MD and was seen by Ana Perez, an APRN who identified herself as a doctor. I asked the staff if she was an MD and was told yes. She said I had a viral infection and she was hence going to start me on antibiotics. (You don’t use antibiotics for viral infections). I just feel like this was a bit of a bait and switch - I’m an MD myself and was under the impression I was going to be seen by one. APRNs are amazing and an essential part of the healthcare system however I think transparency is of the utmost importance, and the fact that the MD I booked with doesn’t even practice at this location felt very misleading.
