About Douglas Freeman
After receiving a BFA from the Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio, Douglas moved to Paris, France to pursue a career as a modern dancer. After several years of performing and teaching dance and fitness, he sustained an injury. Fearing that his dance career would end before its time he sought out various pain management/healing modalities. It was during this time that he discovered Acupuncture. Before he knew it, he was pain-free and back on the road. He continued seeing his Acupuncturist as regularly as possible and soon realized what an effective form of healing Acupuncture was, not only for the aches and pains one can experience but also, and probably more importantly, in maintaining general good health overall.
As time moved on so did his interest in Acupuncture and several years later Douglas saw the need to expand his knowledge of healing with Acupuncture, so he moved to New York to attend the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM). There he received his Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. Since then, he has acquired vast experience successfully treating muscular and skeletal pain syndromes and gynecological concerns; especially infertility issues and irregular/painful menstruation, addiction, and the various conditions related to HIV/AIDS. Douglas holds a NY state license to practice Acupuncture, is Board certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist after being trained at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx.
In 2001 Douglas started an LGBTQ-friendly, private Acupuncture practice catering to all New Yorkers near Union Square where he has been practicing ever since.

On time and such a great experience. I have my very first acupuncture treatment and I was a bit nervous. Dr Douglas calmed me down and made it a pleasure. And I felt great after. I also made a follow - up!

Douglas communicates with empathy and compassion. He understands the need to listen to the person and seems like he has clear understanding of the subject matter to be able to give enough information without overwhelming you about the treatment. I would recommend Douglas if you would like to try acupuncture as a supplemental therapy to your health plan.

I have been seeing Douglass for 6 years now. He is the best. He takes time to understand your issues and comes up with great treatment plans. I had very tight shoulders and it hurt immensely periodically, after a few sections of treatment I saw improvement already. These days I still go regularly as a self-care treatment.

I've been an acupuncture patient of Douglas Freeman's for almost 10 years now and his treatment has always been consistent. He is extremely clean and his spaces are spotless. He is also patient and listens. And as a female I cannot stress this enough-HE LISTENS, which is something that I find doesn't happen enough when a woman is not feeling well and goes to a conventional western medical clinic or doctor. Douglas also takes the time to explain what he thinks is the proper course for whatever your issue may be. He doesn't just start working on you without letting you know what he intends to do.
Douglas is honest about what acupuncture can and cannot do, as well, which I appreciate.
All in all, I feel safe and secure when I go to Douglas for treatment and I never hesitate in recommending him to everyone.

This has been my very first time trying out acupuncture. Understandably I was a bit nervous and didn't know what to expect. In that sense, I have nothing to compare Douglas to any other acupuncturist. However, my first impression before I even had a session booked he was very attentive and addressed my needs in terms of insurance issues. He would get in contact with my insurance and others and took care of everything for me and then send me an invite for my first session.
The session itself was just as relaxing and informative. He would slowly walk me through every step and explain everything he is doing or going to do in detail. He would assess me first before starting and took his time. It was a great experience and I scheduled further sessions with him.
I would definitely recommend him to others.

By far the best acupuncturist in the city! I came in with back and shoulder pain, gone when I left. Douglas was very knowledgeable and demonstrated that throughout my appointment. I really have no complaints. He even accepted my insurance!
