Dr. Douglas A. Hollern is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon who specializes in the surgical treatment of all neck and back disorders of the spine. He has a special interest in cervical spine surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. He believes the most important aspect of medicine is to treat others as if they were his family. His emphasis is always on non-operative management, utilizing multidisciplinary and multimodal approaches. In patients who require surgery, Dr. Hollern is trained in the latest minimally invasive and robotic techniques to expedite the recovery process and maximize postoperative function. Dr. Hollern earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Downstate Medical Center in New York City and received additional spine training at the Rothman Institute. He subsequently completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex adult spinal deformity at one of the top-rated programs in the country at the University of Southern California. In addition to patient care, Dr. Hollern is actively involved in research with an emphasis on clinical outcomes in spine surgery. To date, he has published over 30 peer-reviewed chapters and articles. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and AO Spine, and has been nominated for leadership positions within these societies. Dr. Hollern resides in Miami, Florida, with his wife and son. He enjoys all Miami sports, golf, and fishing.
