About Dr. Douglas Hopper

Standard family practice and psychiatry plus a dash of holistic medicine. We treat Attention Deficit Disorder and anxiety, mostly with medication. I completed medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles, earning my Doctor of Medicine. I then completed a three-year residency at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute in 1968, a residency in Family Medicine at Santa Monica Medical Center, and a one-year residency in Psychiatry at UCLA/Santa Monica Hospital in 1972, as well as training at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. I prefer people to learn their metabolic type in choosing diets. I am interested in treating patients who have nagging symptoms that have dodged diagnosis for years, e.g., bloating, fatigue, various aches and pains, poor sleep, depression, headaches, backache, arthritis pain, and colitis. I promote T3 treatments as well as low-dose naltrexone. I encourage seven feedings per day of rainbow vegetables, which almost no one really does. I help manage patients through the complicated medical system, e.g., which specialists to choose for which symptoms. My favored nutrient supplier is Restorative Formulations. I am board certified in Family Practice and board eligible in Psychiatry. I speak passable Spanish and French. I have attached a photo of me and Dwight Eisenhower when I was 17. I was elected president of Boys' Nation (like Bill Clinton) and pinned Ike with an honorary membership in the American Legion.

Not the best nor the worst. He listened but didn't hear me. Spoke clearly with a pleasant tone. I would say some of the issues were on my side, so I will say he did good for the circumstances.

I had originally booked an appointment with the doctor for earlier in the day when his assistant called me asking to reschedule for the evening. Despite my urgent need to see the doctor, I agreed and logged on a few minutes prior to my appointment in the late afternoon. After the doctor didn’t show up, I called his assistant who told me the doctor was still finishing up with another patient. Another 20 minutes go by, I’m being told again he’s just running late. After 35 minutes I call the assistant again and tell her “I think it’s safe to say the doctor forgot about the appointment“. The assistant agreed.. I hate to say it, but this type of behavior is unprofessional and rude?

Not quite what I was expected, doctor didn’t seem to help or educate me about my health issues at all…… He even seemed like he didn’t quite understand what I was telling me. Didn’t even hesitate to give me a referral with a specific/ specialty doctor, that can help me and solve my health issues, since he couldn’t. Don’t recommend

Prescription was called into the wrong pharmacy and due to the type it could not be transferred. Have been calling every day for 2 weeks and still have not been able to get my medication which has effected my mood and health greatly

It was an all day waiting game to connect, but I appreciated the care from both Dr. Hopper and his office/staff. They were all helpful and, in the end, all worked out and I am feeling much better. A little empathy and understanding always goes a long way!

Thanks Dr. Hopper!

Great experience. I was an ex Kaiser patient who needed a primary care doctor to write me a prescription for an ongoing issue. He asked me all the right questions and was able to send a script to the pharmacy right away. He wanted to make sure my health as a whole was being addressed which I appreciated. I would see him again if needed.

He was very timely and helpful. It’s been difficult finding a primary care physician that accepted my insurance since moving here, but I’m glad I waited / found him!

Dr. Hopper was nice, but out of the hour-long appointment we had, we probably were talking for about 10 minutes of it. We sat in silence for the other 50 minutes while he worked on records? If you are looking for a quick and efficient, I would unfortunately not recommend. Nothing against Dr. Hopper but our appointment seemed like a bit of a waste of a lot of time.

He is amazing !!! He is a doctor who actually will listen because he can help!! He is amazing and this is coming from someone who is very skeptical of doctors because they are so quick to diagnose without getting the full story
Verified patientVideo visit
Empathetic, took an assessment of the situation prior to making a decision, receptive to new patients, offers alternatives or whom to contact if he could not fulfill what is being sought, compassionate advice, extremely punctual, affable, and so on. He was NONE of those things.
Verified patientVideo visit
Dr. Hopper is so kind and attentive and truly listens to the issues you face, answers questions you have, and overall cares to find solutions for your problems

I recently moved from out of state and I needed an appointment to get specific prescriptions that I have for daily use and i made that perfectly clear as well as the fact that the issue was very time sensitive because I was running out of the important meds. I was then rescheduled/forgotten about on three separate occasions. When I finally got to speak to the doctor he was strangely against sleep medication (which was fine, I just needed my other medications) and did absolutely nothing to help me and was utterly blasé and dry considering how flexible I have been just to finally meet with him. the appointment was a total waste of my time and all the hours I set aside on the days prior when my appointments were forgotten or running hrs late. i did not get the one thing I needed and waited for (medications) in my appointment. all i got was the name of a website to get “scored” on my adhd and sent to call his secretary for the 10th time this week to schedule another apnt weeks from now.

This is an online virtual appointment, so I didn't have a chance to see the facility. But Dr. Hopper is great, he listened to my concern, gave me useful suggestion, and proactively ask me a lot of questions regarding my overall health. He is also easy to work with, quite down to earth. I will visit him again for my future medical needs.
