Getting to know Dustin Von Holten

I am out-of-network with all insurance plans and do not prescribe controlled medications (details below). All care is provided via tele-mental health. New Patients welcome. I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) providing medication management for adults and children and supportive therapy for adults. Training & background: BSN/MSN – Columbia University in the City of New York; BS Health Sciences – Purdue University; MBA – Boston University; U.S. Navy Veteran; practicing since 2018 with flexible availability, including weekends. My style is collaborative, safety-focused, and education-forward. I aim to help you understand your options and feel involved in every decision. Medications I prescribe (when appropriate, non-controlled) include antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs, e.g., Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, Effexor), mood stabilizers (e.g., Lamictal), atypical antipsychotics (e.g., Abilify, Seroquel), and non-controlled sleep/anxiety options (e.g., trazodone, hydroxyzine, doxepin). I do not prescribe controlled substances, including stimulants (Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin/Concerta), benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan), or sedative-hypnotics (Ambien, Lunesta). If you are specifically seeking these medications, this practice will not be the right fit. Therapy scope: I provide 1:1 psychotherapy for adults. Not offered: telehealth therapy for children; PTSD-focused or OCD-focused specialty therapies; or family/couples therapy. Insurance & payment: I am out-of-network with all insurance plans. A superbill can be provided for possible reimbursement, and HSA/FSA cards are often accepted, depending on your plan. What to expect: First visit – we review your history, concerns, and goals and create a clear, collaborative treatment plan, which may include medication, therapy, or both when appropriate. Follow-ups are focused check-ins to review progress, adjust treatment as needed, and answer questions

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am out-of-network with all insurance plans and do not prescribe controlled medications. New clients can expect a warm, clear, and collaborative approach. My goal is for you to feel heard, respected, and informed—not rushed or judged. I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides medication management for adults and children and supportive therapy for adults, all via secure tele-mental health. If you have an external individual psychotherapist I appreciate being involved in the collaboration of your care. Education and safety are central to how I practice. I’ll explain your options in plain language, review risks and benefits, and invite your preferences so we can make decisions together. I prescribe non-controlled psychiatric medications when appropriate (such as SSRIs/SNRIs, mood stabilizers, certain atypical antipsychotics, and non-controlled sleep/anxiety options). I DO NOT prescribe controlled substances, including stimulants (e.g., Adderall, Vyvanse), benzodiazepines (e.g., Xanax, Klonopin), or sedative-hypnotics (e.g., Ambien). If you are specifically seeking those medications, my practice will not be the right fit. I DO prescribe non-controlled medications, such as: • Abilify / Aripiprazole • Anafranil / Clomipramine • Auvelity / DXM/BUP • Buspar / Buspirone • Catapres / Clonidine • Celexa / Citalopram • Cogentin / Benztropine • Depakote / Divalproex • Desyrel / Trazodone • Elavil / Amitriptyline • Effexor / Venlafaxine • Geodon / Ziprasidone • Inderal / Propranolol • Lamictal / Lamotrigine • Lexapro / Escitalopram • Luvox / Fluvoxamine • Neurontin / Gabapentin (excluding in Utah) • Pamelor / Nortriptyline • Paxil / Paroxetine • Prozac / Fluoxetine • Remeron / Mirtazapine • Seroquel / Quetiapine • Silenor / Doxepin • Topamax / Topiramate • Vistaril / Hydroxyzine • Wellbutrin / Bupropion • Zoloft / Sertraline • Plus More

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am out-of-network with all insurance plans and do not prescribe controlled medications. We begin with a comprehensive initial psychiatric evaluation. During this visit, I learn about your history, symptoms, medical background, past treatments, and goals. For children, this includes input from caregivers and, when helpful, school or prior evaluations. By the end of the first appointment, we’ll discuss a clear, collaborative plan that may include medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or monitoring only. Follow-up visits are focused check-ins where we review progress, side effects, stressors, and what’s working (or not). Medications are adjusted thoughtfully and gradually when needed, and we’ll continually revisit your goals. For adults engaging in therapy, sessions blend supportive therapy with practical tools (such as coping strategies and skill-building), always tailored to your pace and comfort. I provide 1:1 therapy for adults and do not offer telehealth therapy for children, PTSD/OCD-specific therapies, or family/couples work; when those are needed, I’ll recommend seeking a specialist. Throughout our work together, I encourage questions and feedback so your care feels transparent, collaborative, and sustainable.
