“Attentive and addresses each issue in depth to give you clarity. He focuses on you, not a screen not just your medication, you and your history with mental disparity. He's kind, educated, and able to articulate a diagnosis that isn't wrapped in medical jargon you can't understand. He wanted to make sure what he was saying resonated truly with how I was feeling. Not many psychs out there like him. I'm thoroughly looking forward to continuing care with Dr. Leung, by far the best care I have ever received. ”

Getting to know Dr. Edison Leung

Great to meet you! I use Headway as my primary telepsychiatry service for appointments. My approach to psychiatry is defined by compassion, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to each person’s unique journey. With both an MD and PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, I bring a strong foundation in medicine and molecular biology, which grounds my work in research, innovation, and evidence-based practice. My training and leadership roles within the University of Texas Health System—including serving as Chief Resident, Assistant Medical Director, and Assistant Professor—have shaped the way I view mental health as a multidimensional and deeply personal experience. I have also gained extensive clinical experience across world-renowned institutions such as MD Anderson, Memorial Hermann, Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, and Maui Memorial Medical Center, allowing me to care for patients across inpatient and outpatient settings with confidence and expertise. My core philosophy is simple: I center my care around the patient. I believe trust, safety, and collaboration are the foundation of healing. Over the course of my career, I have been honored to receive national recognition, research awards, and fellowships, as well as publish scientific work on depression, trauma, and advanced psychiatric treatments. I am board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and licensed to practice in California, Hawaii, and Texas. Above all, I believe in partnering with my patients—walking alongside them as they rediscover hope, growth, and meaningful well-being. My practice is a place where individuals are heard, supported, and empowered to move toward a life of stability, transformation, and fulfillment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use headway as my primary telepsychiatry service for appointments. I believe each client is unique and that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work in psychiatry. It is imperative to design personalized individual treatment plans that involve the patient as the key member of the treatment team.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients can expect their first session with me to focus on understanding their health needs and creating a personalized plan of care. Here’s what that typically looks like: 1. Comprehensive Intake I begin by reviewing medical history, current medications, and any previous diagnoses. I’ll also ask about lifestyle factors—such as sleep patterns, stress, daily habits, and overall well-being. 2. Symptom Discussion You’ll have time to openly share your concerns and your goals, whether you’re managing a chronic condition, addressing new symptoms, or seeking preventive support. 3. Diagnostic Planning If appropriate, I may recommend lab work or imaging to build a clearer and more complete understanding of your health. 4. Personalized Care Plan I will outline next steps, including treatment options, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals to other specialists when needed. 5. Open Q&A We end with space for questions, clarifications, and discussion—ensuring you leave with a clear sense of direction, confidence, and partnership in your care.

Talked to him for less than 10 minutes before he let me know he could not be my dr if I wanted to stay on my current medication that I’ve been on for 2+ years and has been major in improving my quality of life. He said my medication could make me maniac and I told him I had never been maniac. He then told me he thought I was maniac right now bc I was “talking fast”. I’ve never heard this before today. I was being seen monthly by my previous psychiatrist. This was my first time meeting him and we didn’t even have time to go into my history. My diagnosis was actually major depression not maniac depression. I felt like he was quick to make assumptions and stereotyped me. Like he just wanted credit for a doctors visit without helping me. I have never experienced this with my Dr before but it was really disappointing. I was able to find a doctor that could help me and actually listened on zoc doc the next day.

Dr. Leung thoroughly answered my questions, was genuine and kind, and is a good listener. He is LGBTQ+ friendly/affirming in the current climate of Texas; I was grateful to find him for this reason especially. His administrator who helps schedule appointments is communicative and responds timely as well. I will recommend him to friends and family looking for a psychiatrist.
Dr.Edison was a nice, experienced and authoritative guy. Dr.Edison can tell the root cause of my symptom easily and offer appropriate help, I'm lucky to meet Dr.Edison.

Unlike other medical providers or psychiatrists, Dr. Leung carefully listens to your symptoms and childhood patterns and then makes an appropriate determination based on everything you've discussed. He addresses and clarifies your symptoms in an extremely helpful manner. 10/10 - would highly recommend.

Edison is a thoughtful and caring practitioner that is able to treat his patients well even virtually. Highly recommended for anyone looking at Telehealth psychiatric servics.
He listens and talks to me every single question. Given the positive side of things that I’ve had thinking of . The way he speaking about my concerns is always makes me feel good.
I was initially nervous about doing psychiatry appointments over video but Dr. Leung made me feel comfortable right away. They have an excellent virtual bedside manner and he’s a very active listener. He took the time to explain everything clearly. The tele-health platform was easy to navigate, and the convenience of seeing such a high quality provider from home has been a game changer for me.
Dr. Edison Leung is attentive, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. He listens carefully and offers guidance that actually helps. One of the best psychiatrists I’ve ever worked with.
As a young, shy mom, opening up about my mental health has always been hard for me. Dr. Edison Leung made me feel comfortable from the very first visit. He listens without judgment, explains things clearly, and never makes me feel rushed. I’ve felt truly supported under his care, and it’s helped me be a better, more grounded parent. I’m very grateful for his patience and kindness.
Dr. Leung is an outstanding psychiatrist who truly goes above and beyond for his patients. He listens carefully, asks thoughtful questions, and creates a calm, supportive environment where it’s easy to be honest. I always feel heard and respected during every appointment compared to my prior psychiatrists that I feel like they have a script. His guidance has made a meaningful difference in my well-being and I’m genuinely grateful for his expertise and compassion. I highly recommend Dr. Leung to anyone looking for a psychiatrist who is both knowledgeable and genuinely caring. And not to mention he works perfectly on time for someone busy with work like me, I was able to schedule on a weekend. Thank you Dr. Leung.
As a college student dealing with anxiety, depression and ADHD finding a psychiatrist who actually understands me has been really hard. Early appointments are almost impossible for me don’t even get me started with my past docs I always felt guilty or judged with past doctors. Dr. Edison Leung has been the complete opposite. He’s patient, flexible, and never makes me feel like a burden. He’s always willing to see me after hours, which is the only reason I’ve been able to stay consistent. For the first time, I feel like a doctor is actually listening instead of just checking boxes. I’ve made more progress with him than with anyone else, and I’m genuinely grateful for how supportive and understanding he is.”
I’m very grateful for my telehealth visit with this psychiatrist. He was patient, compassionate, and genuinely listened to what I had to say. He offered great recommendations and made me feel understood and supported. I would absolutely recommend him.
