Getting to know Edith Funtong

Hello and welcome to Finding Your Peace Healing Springs! My name is Edith Funtong, and I'm a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with extensive experience in delivering compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. I earned my Master's in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Walden University and my Bachelor's degree from Western Governors University. Over the past 7 years, I've had the privilege of serving patients across Texas, working in a variety of clinical settings, including Texas Health Dallas Hospital, Northwest Texas Behavioral Health Hospital in Amarillo, and John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, sleep disorders, PTSD, schizoaffective disorders, bipolar disorder, substance abuse disorders, adjustment disorders, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. My mission is to help individuals like you regain control of their mental well-being by offering personalized telehealth services tailored to your unique needs, using a holistic approach that prioritizes your comfort and pace. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed or just need support along your mental health journey, I'm here to provide nonjudgmental care and collaborative treatment strategies. Together, we'll work on creating a customized plan that fosters healing, empowerment, and long-term recovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my practice, I utilize Psychological Testing and Evaluation as a key tool to diagnose and guide treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, PTSD, psychosis, and substance use disorders. This process involves administering standardized assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. These tests allow me to develop a comprehensive understanding of each client's unique mental health challenges, offering valuable insights that inform personalized treatment plans. By assessing areas such as mood regulation, trauma response, substance use patterns, and interpersonal difficulties, I can tailor interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and medication management to effectively address the root causes of their symptoms. My goal is to provide clients with accurate diagnoses and individualized care that promotes long-term healing and recovery.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Comprehensive Assessment: I begin by thoroughly understanding each patient's unique situation, including their symptoms, past medical history, and how the problem has affected their daily life. This involves listening attentively to their challenges, whether it's difficulty with sleep, energy, concentration, or feelings of hopelessness. Compassionate Care: I create a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. Personalized Treatment Plans: Every individual is unique, and so is their treatment. I tailor each plan to fit the specific needs of my clients. Proven Methods: My treatment plans are grounded in evidence-based practices like CBT and effective medication management. Holistic Approach: I focus on the whole person, not just the symptoms, to help clients regain a sense of balance, peace, and fulfillment. In cases of moderate to severe mental health disorders, I combine CBT with medication management. For instance, in patients with major depressive disorder, I might prescribe medications to manage symptoms. Medication helps regulate the brain's chemical imbalances, while CBT addresses cognitive and behavioral aspects. How I Incorporate Medication Management: Initial Evaluation: I assess the patient's symptoms, past treatment responses, and preferences to select the most appropriate medication. Monitoring and Adjustment: I monitor the patient’s response to medication over time, adjusting dosages or switching medications if necessary. Medication Education: I provide education about medication benefits, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to ensure patients feel comfortable and informed about their treatment.
