“Dr Haas was great listener. While other therapists listen and never advise or give recommendations-Dr Haas does in a very helpful and subjective manner. He helped me sort thru a emotional situation and helped me diffuse it by looking at it differently. I’m grateful to have found such a good DR”

Getting to know Dr. Edward Haas

**Please Note: All initial consultations are IN-PERSON. After the initial evaluation, virtual visits are an option. New York State law does not allow me to prescribe certain medications without an in-person meeting. I do NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE. Patients pay me directly and may submit for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits if their plan allows.** Before becoming a physician, I worked in the securities industry as a broker and analyst and ran a small computer consulting and programming business. I also have experience in social services as a street outreach worker doing HIV prevention and as a service coordinator in a birth-to-three early intervention program. In my late 30s, I decided to fulfill a childhood dream and become a doctor. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, completed post-baccalaureate pre-health studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and received my Doctor of Medicine from Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University. I completed my psychiatric residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Along the way, I took detours into Pathology and Family Practice medicine. I believe a wide range of life experiences helps me in my empathic work with patients, giving me a better feel for where they’ve been and an optimistic sense of their future potential. I specialize in dealing with crisis and getting people well quickly. I also like helping people reduce or stop medications when possible. I enjoy doing psychotherapy as well. My initial evaluation takes about an hour and a half and must be in person. Afterward, we can do virtual visits via Zoom or phone, though in-person follow-up is preferred. Many people feel better after the first visit and only need a few follow-ups. I look forward to working with you and will do my best to help. Best wishes, Dr. Haas

What should a new client know about working with you?

I prefer to work in-person. I don't bite.. There are no contracts. Come and see me as long as it is helpful for you. However, if you cancel at the last minute, or don't show up for a session, there will be a fee. Things work best when my patients are willing to try what I recommend, so having an open mind is helpful, but not necessary. I am happy to work with you as you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial evaluation begins with a detailed history of your current situation and your past. Then I give my assessement, which we discuss. Then we discuss next steps, which might include medication, psychotherapy, and changes you might make in your personal life or work. Depending on how severe the situation is, I might see you weekly or monthly, and as you get better the intervals between visits typically increases. Finally, when you are ready, and no longer need medication or therapy, we end our scheduled appointments, and you are free to see me if and when you wish.

Dr. Haas was great. Very attentive and understanding of my situation and offered a thorough consultation. He fully addressed any concerns I had and made himself available for any future questions or concerns during my time working with him.
Dr. Haas' prescribed treatment regime seems reasonable and conservative but still addresses the problems. I felt his insights and questions were direct and relevant. I would recommend him.
In 2009, my wife found Dr Haas and forced me to see him. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me. He was the second Dr my wife forced me to see, and I can honestly say that without him, I would not have found the solution to the most difficult period of my life. I considered every way out I could think of, and Dr Haas' genuine empathy and honest feedback was the first and, at the time, the only saving grace I had. He is honest, caring and kind hearted, in addition to being a highly skilled practioner.
Great & Helpful Doctor. Highly Recommended!!!
He was very thorough, and put me at ease right away! I particularly liked that he followed up with me even though it was a one time visit. He really cared about his patients.
