It all began when I had to accompany my mother to medical appointments. She speaks no English, so I was there to help with the language barrier. The medical personnel were abrupt and rude toward us. I was disappointed by the way my mother was treated. That’s when I decided I was going to do what I could to improve healthcare in America. Elaine joined Contour Dermatology in 2004 as a Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Master’s in Family Nursing from the University of San Francisco and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She came to Contour from a private dermatology practice in San Francisco. While working in dermatology in the Bay Area, she simultaneously served as a Cardiac Nurse with Kaiser Permanente for more than a year. Prior to that, she worked as a Medical/Research Assistant for several Bay Area practices during her schooling. “There are so many different aspects to dermatology; it’s very broad, it’s like detective work,” Elaine comments. “We work with people who have skin conditions or concerns about their appearance. What I enjoy most is helping people and seeing them happy with the results,” she says. Elaine is active in several professional medical associations. She currently serves on the committee to plan the annual meeting of the Nurse Practitioner Society of the Dermatologic Nurses Association and is a past board member of the California Association of Nurse Practitioners. In the valley, she provides regular skin cancer screenings for the community at the La Quinta Senior Center. Elaine and her husband, Kevin, live in Palm Desert with their three children. In her leisure time, Elaine enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and taking long walks.
