Getting to know Eliza Rivera-Mitu

I’m Eliza Rivera-Mitu, a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), and Advanced Diabetes Manager (BC-ADM). With over 30 years of nursing experience and more than a decade as a Nurse Practitioner, I bring a holistic and compassionate approach that integrates mental and physical health. I specialize in helping teens and adults who feel anxious, depressed, or disconnected—especially those navigating life with autism, ADHD, trauma, or chronic health conditions. As an immigrant and first-generation Filipino American, I understand the challenges of carrying cultural expectations, generational trauma, and the silence that can surround mental health. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported on your path toward healing, clarity, and self-trust. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in cultural humility. I value taking time to listen and provide thoughtful, evidence-based recommendations that affirm neurodiversity and honor your unique experiences. I offer medication management and supportive care for individuals seeking balance in both mind and body. My training includes psychiatric care at Exodus Recovery in Los Angeles, Healthcare in Action’s street medicine teams, and UC-LEND, where I focused on neurodevelopmental care and autism. In addition to clinical practice, I teach in nursing and nurse practitioner programs to help shape the next generation of healthcare providers. Outside of medicine, I’m a worship leader, wife, and mother of three. I believe true healing blends science, compassion, and faith. I’m fluent in Tagalog and speak conversational medical Spanish.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to care is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based. I believe that healing begins with trust and understanding, so I take time to listen to your story and tailor a plan that fits your unique needs. Together, we’ll explore both the physical and emotional aspects of your health to develop a realistic, holistic care plan that promotes long-term well-being. During our sessions, you can expect a warm, nonjudgmental environment where your concerns are heard and validated. I often combine traditional medical treatment with lifestyle and mental health support—addressing the whole person, not just symptoms. My goal is to empower you with knowledge and tools to take an active role in your health journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, I take time to get to know you—your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This initial visit allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and develop a personalized treatment plan together. I may ask questions about your mood, thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences to better understand what’s contributing to your challenges. In ongoing sessions, I use talk therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify unhelpful thought patterns, gain insight into emotions, and develop practical coping strategies. Sessions are collaborative and focused on both understanding and skill-building—so you can begin applying what we discuss to real-life situations. Over time, we’ll track your progress, celebrate improvements, and adjust our plan as needed to support your continued growth and emotional well-being. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change. As for medication management, please note that I do not prescribe benzos such as Valium, Xanax, or Klonopin as those medications are highly addictive. I apologize for any inconvenience.

  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I accept most major insurance plans, and payment is typically processed at the time of your visit. For clients who prefer to pay out of pocket or do not have insurance, I offer affordable self-pay options and a sliding scale based on individual financial circumstances. For those who have MediCal, please note that we only take "straight" MediCal, we do not take those that are in health plans such as HealthNet, LA Care, Molina, CalOptima or IEHP at this time. My goal is to make quality mental health care accessible to everyone, regardless of insurance status. If you have questions about coverage, costs, or payment options — we’re happy to help you find a plan that works best for you.

I couldn't be more pleased with my session. Eliza took the time needed and not once did I feel rushed. She took the time to carefully review my labs and hear my history in order to come up with some great recommendations for me. I've had other not so great experiences with online medical companies, but I completely lucked out chosing Eliza. I very highly recommend her!
