Getting to know Elizabeth Barley

My name is Elizabeth Barley. I am dual-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have experience working in inpatient settings caring for both children and adults. Additionally, I have worked in various other areas, including hospital settings, home health, and palliative/hospice care. I earned my Master's in Nursing from Western Governors University, followed by a Master's in Family Health Nursing and a Master's in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Purdue University. While attending school, I worked at an inpatient mental health clinic and also worked remotely as a family nurse practitioner.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My focus is on the treatment of depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other chronic mental health illnesses through psychiatric assessment, medication management,t, and brief psychotherapeutic intervention. I believe in creating an individualized plan of care that values client involvement, interprofessional collaboration, and evidenced-based practice. My goal for my clients is to feel empowered to treat their illnesses through supportive education in a safe environment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process starts with a thorough, collaborative assessment where I learn about your symptoms, history, lifestyle, and goals. I prioritize listening so I can fully understand your concerns and what matters most to you. From there, we develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, and practical coping strategies. Follow-up visits focus on tracking progress, adjusting the plan as needed, and making sure you feel supported, informed, and involved every step of the way.

The professional I spoke to actually listened and asked relevant questions and didn’t just prescribe a cookie cutter slew of meds. Great experience

Elizabeth was so effective and genuinely kind. She made me feel understood and really listened to the things I said. I've been struggling with the healthcare system for quite some time and my visit with her made me wonder why I didn't use zocdoc sooner. I couldn't help but smile after our appointment!!
