“I felt the first visit with Dr. Hozian went extremely well. She listened and asked many questions regarding my daughter with special needs. I have a daughter with complex needs and she asked all the right questions. I liked how she will involve her other drs. to make sure she know her history and for the team to agree on her plan of action. Coming from a mom whose daughter has to see multiple specialists, Dr. Hozian will be a perfect fit. ”

Getting to know Dr. Elizabeth Hozian

Elizabeth Hozian, DO, is a board-certified psychiatrist who works with adults and adolescents over 15 years old. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Hozian completed her residency in psychiatry at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, and served as chief child/adolescent fellow during her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Chicago. Through a collaborative approach, Dr. Hozian employs therapeutic techniques and evidence-based medications to address your mental health concerns and improve overall well-being. She strives to create an environment where you can feel heard and understood.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is collaborative, comprehensive and communicative. From the beginning, I want to know your treatment goals and we come up with a reasonable plan of action to help get you there. I will recommend certain treatment, which may involve medicine, and how I feel it will benefit you. I will also give other reasonable treatment options (including no treatment) and the risks and benefits of all the options. I want to ensure you feel well-informed and comfortable with your treatment choice. I work to comprehensively understand you and all the factors that may influence your mental health- your upbringing, social life, religious/spiritual beliefs, physical health, and more. If I feel certain factors are getting in the way of your optimal mental health, we therapeutically work through it. I may give additional recommendations- such as marital counseling, a visit to your primary care doctor, or adding physical activity to your routine. I also want to highlight and encourage the important parts of you that are helpful to your overall wellbeing: your religious/spiritual beliefs, your hobbies, your social connections, future plans and dreams. Finally, my style is communicative. Clients have access to my email and a confidential phone line that goes right to my cell phone with SMS capabilities, so I will respond to a text, call or email within 24 hours on business days between 9am-5pm. I feel this is important as I want to ensure you are doing well on your treatment and not running out of medicine. For complex questions or problems, recommend scheduling an appointment and I ensure you will be able to follow up with me within 2 weeks. Please note that I am IN NETWORK with BCBS PPO policies. I am out of network with other insurance companies. I can provide out of network clients with a superbill to submit to insurance for potential reimbursement. For more information regarding payment, see Additional information regarding payments and coverage below.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At our first session, I take time to get to know you as a person- your interests, social life, and spiritual beliefs as well as your mental health history. We address your most pressing concerns and other factors (known and unknown) that may be leading you to seek care and collaboratively establish goals for your treatment. I may recommend and prescribe medicine as part of your treatment after discussing risks and benefits of treatment options. Our follow up appointments are longer than typical psychiatry visits (30 minutes rather than 15-20 minute med checks) which allows us to have a more therapeutic relationship and the opportunity to recognize other factors that may be inhibiting your treatment. However, I often recommend my clients seek care with a therapist as well. I may also recommend lab testing or referral to your primary doctor for medical concerns or medicine monitoring. Depending where your treatment is at, we may have follow up appointments as frequent as 3-4 weeks or as infrequent as 6 months. While many individuals are on their medicines long-term, if you feel you have reached your treatment goals and desire to come off medicine, I work with you to come off safely.
