Internist
FL
I like for my patients to call me Dr. Ellie. I am a board certified internal medicine doctor with over 20 years of experience. I received my bachelors degree in Human Biology from Stanford University. I received my MD from Northwestern University Medical School. I completed my residency in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson UMDNJ. My favorite thing about medicine is getting to know my patients. I am a careful listener and a good note taker. I am very organized and practical, and I pride myself in meeting my patients where they are. I believe that every person on this planet is special and that everyone deserves to be respected and understood by their doctor. I have a wide array of experience that has given me a well-honed medical intuition. After 3 years of a very intense medical residency, I worked at a diabetic center where I took care of over 700 diabetic patients in a medically underserved community. It was there where I really learned how necessary it is for doctors to tailor an effective regimen that takes into account different patients' circumstances. For example, I learned all too well that it is useless to order a wonderful medication that costs $500 a month in someone who is struggling to pay for food. That experience informed me on a deep level where I always try to make a practical plan for a patient that fits into what is realistic for them too. From 2007 to 2020, I worked as a hospitalist where I fine-tuned my ability to evaluate and treat patients who were sometimes critically ill. During this time, I also worked for 8 years as the consulting internist of a residential treatment facility for women and adolescents with eating disorders and mood disorders. This experiences was very gratifying. It was there that I developed a very unique understanding of the intersection of psychiatric and medical illness. In September of 2020, I left Chicago and moved to Florida. Since this time I have transitioned to telemedicine full-time. I absolutely love telemedicine. The scheduling flexibility has allowed me to homeschool my children during a pandemic!. What I also really love about telemedicine is being able to reach so many patients to prevent illness and keep people at safe and at home. What is also very special about telemedicine, is being able to see patients in their own homes. While it is not the same as an in person home visit, the fact that I can see a patient while they are at home allows me to understand that patient in a way that is deeper than if I were just seeing them in the hospital or clinic. In the hospital - you are a patient - but in your home - you are you. I love getting to meet patients' families and pets or to see the painting that they just completed or the blanket that they are crocheting. Telemedicine has allowed me to get to know my patients in a more holistic way. Even though I am practicing medicine remotely, I am very lucky to use a very comprehensive electronic medical record system that allows me to order medications, labs, diagnostic imaging, specialty consultations, and more. While it is definitely true that some things must be handled in person or in the acute setting, many things can be handled from home. I embrace a holistic, patient-centered model of care, and I am very excited to meet you!
