I’m Dr. Emem Nkanga, Doctor of Nursing Practice. I believe that everyone deserves a personalized and compassionate approach to mental health care. I bring over 20 years of experience in healthcare, with a focused dedication to psychiatry over the past 4 years. I have committed my career to enhancing the health of individuals and communities. My passion lies in supporting mental health and emotional well-being.
I earned all my degrees, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice, from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). I specialize in treating children ages 10 and above, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds. These are individuals with a range of illnesses, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, severe stress, anger issues, and more.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My approach to care is centered on listening, collaboration, and respect. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your concerns. I combine my clinical expertise with a compassionate, nonjudgmental, nurturing, patient-centered approach to develop thoughtful medication management plans, and I collaborate closely with therapists and other providers when appropriate. Effective care is not one-size-fits-all; I tailor treatment to fit your unique needs and goals.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
During your first session, you can expect a welcoming and open conversation. We will discuss your concerns, symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I will listen, take time to answer your questions, and begin developing a plan that feels right for you. My priority is to ensure you feel heard, respected, and supported from the very beginning. I am here to support you on your journey toward improved mental and emotional well-being, so you can live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

I made an appointment in the morning and was able to see Emem Nkanga the same day, with minimal delay (<5 min). The office sent in my patient forms to fill out before the session, and we went over the information during my first session. I went in thinking I had one issue, but my NP pointed out I may have a different issue and went over why she thought that way. I agreed with her diagnosis after her explanation and am now starting treatment for it. Their receptionist is very responsive and picked up the phone almost immediately. They also sent out my prescription soon after I sent over the pharmacy details and was able to pick up the same day. I do wish they send out a reminder email with more instructions to the link for the telehealth appointment - as I was not aware it was the link to the appointment when I first received the confirmation email. Overall, very professional & efficient office.

She was very abrasive and combative when I was trying to get a medication for my adhd. I understand it's a sensitive medication but she was very aggressive while I was trying to talk about it. She also never actually listened to me I had to repeat myself multiple times and still was asked the same questions.

Dr.Nkanga is the third doctor I have seen for my issues. She understands me better than any of the others.
She prescribed medications that have helped me tremendously. I can honestly say I haven't felt as good as I do now in a very long time!

She genuinely helped me cope and deal better with my mental health and helped me understand and realize key aspects of my daily habits/traits that I need to work on in order to maintain a healthy mental state. I had a wonderful visit with Dr.Nkanga! I let her know that I was a little nervous at first because it was my first time visiting the doctor in years. She reassured me that there was nothing to worry about and that she was only there to help. After just a few minutes, I felt so relaxed and comfortable. You can tell that she truly cares about you and does not look at you as just another patient. I plan to go back soon and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for psychiatric help.
