Emily grew up in Kansas City and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2011. They are queer, neurodivergent, a gardener, and a dreamer. She is an enrolled member of Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, a Chickasaw descendant, and white. Emily is a lover of leisure, of which they thoroughly enjoy swimming, dancing, and photography. She’s organized, creative, and embodies authentic chaos. After completing her Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science from the University of Kansas, Emily continued her studies and graduated from the University of Washington with a Master of Education with a dual focus in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. In addition to being a behavior specialist, she has professional experience as an educational consultant, tutor, special education teacher, teacher assistant, research assistant, conference and didactic presenter, camp counselor, and nanny. Emily values community connection and collaboration, humor, and interdependence. They are an active member of the Neurodivergent Affirming Consult Group for Providers. Previously, they served on the Young Professionals Board and then later on as a Board of Director at the Arc of King County. Additionally, she was a member of several committees, the Advocacy Committee Chair, and the Vice President for the Arc of King County for over four years, over three years, and over a year, respectively. During their studies and later on in their teaching career they joined and reestablished several professional learning communities, served as both mentee and mentor across multiple programs, was the school’s Art Coordinator and on the Racial Equity Team. Emily has a passion for creating a more equitable, just, and inclusive world. She is committed to staying up-to-date on research and best practices, and prioritizes ongoing education and collaboration with individuals with lived experiences, universities, grassroots movements, private and non-profit organizations, and government sectors.
