“Wow, I truly believe that Dr. Downes may be one of the most intelligent, thorough, and caring, providers that I have ever come across as a patient as well as during my years working with other providers as a nurse. He knows facts about meds and their implications in various settings that I’ve never even heard any psychiatrist mention. Dr. Downes is so knowledgeable about diagnoses and current, up to date, evidence-based practice treatments that most providers would not think to implement. As far as my experience goes, most practitioners hear the first symptom you mention and they don’t bother hearing/considering any other information you may want to mention before they prescribe a drug to address that one specific symptom, even if it’s at the cost of worsening other areas of your illness. Dr. Downes actually reads the patient chart BEFORE meeting with the patient, asks questions while listening to all that you have to say, and addresses any questions while thoroughly explaining his own thought process. In my experience, and this includes with various other practitioners at Lifestance as well, they have asked me what’s wrong with me and, in response, I give my opinion of what diagnosis I think I may have and that’s what they document and begin to treat. This is without actually formally and thoroughly assessing me themselves. I’ve heard some crazy explanations and rationales behind the choices they’ve made and, having worked in psych myself for years, am blown away by their logic and the “science” behind their choices. It’s scary when the patient has to diagnose and guide his/her own treatment by suggesting what potential diagnoses may be present & what some appropriate medications may be. I’ve struggled for years and had given up hope on actually getting relief from my symptoms as they’ve only worsened overtime but it was SO reassuring hearing Dr. Downes assess and confirm my diagnosis with so much confidence, intelligence, and then finally say “we can definitely treat this”. I’ve never heard that and it gave so much comfort. I never leave reviews, and definitely not this thorough. But I wanted to truly thank you, Dr. Downes, because you deserve more recognition for the excessively abundant effort you put in to your work that others don’t come close to putting in. 10/10 ”

Dr. Downs has helped me attain new levels of mental health. He is professional, courteous, listens, and gives sound medical advice. I have not been this fortunate with a provider in the 10 or so years I've been receiving services. Interacting with him and the service he provides has allowed me to gain more control over my issues and I'm no longer afraid of/disappointed in addressing them.
