Getting to know Dr. Eric Garfinkle
Having trained in several models of contemporary, evidence-supported psychotherapy (e.g., psychodynamic, CBT, somatic), I firmly believe there is no "single" treatment that works best for everyone. Instead, therapy is most effective when built on a strong therapeutic relationship and tailored to the unique needs of each client. After all, we each have distinctive histories, biologies, identities, relationships, ambitions, and more. Given how spectacularly variable human beings are, it seems senseless to fit clients into a single psychotherapy mold.
I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and completed my internship at the University of Pennsylvania. Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as a New York corporate attorney for nearly a decade, having earned my Juris Doctor from Fordham University. Though no longer practicing law, my time as a lawyer has given me valuable insight into the challenges faced by those in highly demanding professions. I understand the limits our careers may impose, and I strive to seek practical solutions with my clients.

Eric is a terrific therapist!... I've had bad anxiety since my childhood and he helped me find new ways of coping with stress. Also, unlike some other therapists I've worked with, he is very engaged during session and provides lots of helpful feedback. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to start therapy.

Dr. Garfinkle helped through some issues I was having with depression following a breakup. I found him to be kind and empathic and he genuinely seemed to care about my wellbeing. I would definitely recommend him to others.
