About Dr. Eric Hillmann

Dr. Eric Hillmann got a firsthand look at foot and ankle injuries playing football and baseball at Valparaiso University in Indiana. He blew a knee out and faced ankle injuries, and saw teammates go down as well. It fueled his desire to go into the medical field, focusing on sports orthopedics. Hillmann grew up playing sports in Germantown, WI. It was in college, with bigger, faster, stronger athletes, that he saw more significant injuries. “I know what the athletes were going through. It helps me in the practice when I meet with the weekend warriors who continue to actively participate in their sport. I have a feel for foot and ankle injuries,” he said. After finishing his residency in Denver, CO at VA, Dr. Hillmann returned to the Germantown area, sending out emails to get connected and begin his practice. Four-and-a-half years ago, he joined Great Midwest Foot and Ankle. He appreciates working on complicated cases, alleviating pain and helping the patients feel better. “Finding a quick turn-around on the pain level is very satisfying,” he observed. Not every case is clear, Hillmann knows. He finds working on cases that require him to make a second opinion some of the toughest. “There are usually a number of complicated issues. The patient has often met with multiple doctors. I sit down with them, and help them sort through problems, and stress how we can figure it out. In podiatry, there are lots of ways to fix the patient’s issues, and I use my experience to help get the best results,” he said. Like his Great Midwest partner Dr. Robert Matteucci, it’s taking extra time with patients that stands out to Hillmann about their practice. “We have patients who’ve gone to other doctors and been brushed aside with no answers. We’ll sit down with them, establish a treatment plan. It’s a holistic approach – taking the extra time with patients to delve more deeply into what’s going on,” Hillmann said. Hillmann has a sister, Emily, who is also in the medical field, currently in the Pharmacy program at Concordia University, Mequon, WI. His mother, Connie, an accountant at D&M Bookkeeping in Menomonee Falls, WI, will “send patients my way,” he laughed. A big sports guy, Hillmann enjoys Bucks, Brewers and Packers games, plays golf, loves grilling out and is a big movie fan. Favorites include “Interstellar” and “Inception.” He particularly likes the science, physics “relativity” angles in the flicks, and keeps a large collection of his favorites at home. When it comes to his day-to-day life at Great Midwest, Hillmann likes the variety of cases he encounters, and the ability to get around to different locations. “It brings variety. One day I’m in Brookfield, another I’m in Bayside or Franklin. It keeps things fresh. It’s nice to get out and see the world.” Hillmann is a board qualified Podiatrist in forefoot, rearfoot and ankle surgery. He attended Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Illinois, and did his residency clinical and surgical training in Denver under the guidance of a diverse group of world class Podiatric Attendings.
