Erica Shackelford, FNP-C has a passion for providing holistic care, and promoting wellness in all her patients. She is from Wisconsin and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Marquette University in 2003. While attending college, she enlisted in the Army National Guard as a medic in 2000, and simultaneously was enrolled in Marquette University’s Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC). Upon graduation in 2003, she was commissioned as an active duty officer in the Army Nurse Corps. From 2004 to 2009 she was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC where she worked at Womack Army Medical Center as an Critical Care Nurse. During her time there she had the opportunity to serve in combat from 2006 to 2007, where she was deployed to Iraq with the 28th Combat Support Hospital.
In 2009, she gave birth to her daughter, and decided to become a civilian nurse as her husband continued his Army career. She worked as a Critical Care Nurse at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. After having her son in 2011, she worked as the Director of the Brigadier General Anna Mae Hays Clinical Nurse Transition Program at Womack Army Medical Center, training new Army Nurses. Erica and her family moved to Northern Virginia in 2013 for her husband’s career, and in 2015 she decided to pursue higher education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2018 she graduated with Honors with a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Simmons University, and she completed her certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). In December, 2018 she joined the team at Vita Family Medicine and Med Spa where she practices full-spectrum care to patients of all ages, from infants to elderly. Excellent... I really appreciated the patience and verbal "walkthrough" of what was happening. Erika has an excellent bedside manner, and I feel all of my concerns are being addressed appropriately in equal reactive and proactive ways. Bravo!

Erica saw my daughter for her 11 year old well child and was wonderful with her. She explained to her what she was going to do before hand which really helped settle my daughters nerves. I highly recommend Erica as a provider!!
