About Dr. Erkan Buyuk
Dr. Erkan Buyuk is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility (REI) specialist who practices at RMA of New York’s Eastside office. Prior to joining RMA of New York in 2019, Dr. Buyuk served as the Director of the Fertility Preservation Program and Reproductive Tissue Bank at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Buyuk received his medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey. He then completed an Ob/Gyn residency at Marmara University Hospital in Turkey, a research fellowship at Cornell University, a second residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and a fellowship in REI at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Buyuk has demonstrated a sustained commitment to both patient care and to research. He has authored over 100 abstracts and peer-reviewed publications focusing on a variety of reproductive health topics, including the role of hormones in ovarian reserve and aging and the effect of obesity and diet on ovarian function. Dr. Buyuk’s scientific contributions have received several awards, including the Society for Reproductive Investigation/Bayer Award in 2018 and the Prize Paper at the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Annual Meeting in 2019. He was also part of the team that pioneered the ovarian tissue freezing and transplantation and published the creation of the first embryo in the world following ovarian tissue freezing and autotransplantation.
Dr. Buyuk is committed to teaching and training future REI physicians. He served as REI Fellowship Director at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and is currently an examiner for the REI Certifying Exam of American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. .
