About Eva Kantor

I have found that relationships are where people experience the greatest difficulty in their lives. In therapy, we have an opportunity to identify repetitive patterns and assumptions that interfere with starting and maintaining a satisfying relationship. I use an analytically informed approach, believing that past experiences affect present life, while maintaining a focus on the person’s present life and interactions; also using the relationship between patient and therapist as a valuable source of information. Additionally, I see many people who come in with anxiety or depression that they recognize is out of proportion to their circumstances, and which seems to have no apparent source. I also work with people burdened by narcissistic issues that make it difficult to reach compromises with others. With over 30 years of private practice experience, I have been a therapist to many people, resolving issues such as sexual identity questions, low self-esteem, difficulty coping with stress, self-sabotage, lack of confidence, problems with aging, as well as numerous other important mental health matters. With patient and therapist working together, developing trust, the patient may allow him or herself to reflect about thoughts that have been too difficult to face alone. Often, people experience feelings they don’t even know how to identify, as they’ve never had someone to teach them what a feeling represents. We work together to develop the person’s internal resources as life always presents difficulties; it is our capacity to cope with these challenges that makes a difference. I bring a blend of warmth and intellectual energy to my work, seeing each person as unique. I also teach psychology interns at Lenox Hill Hospital and psychiatry residents at Mt. Sinai Hospital as well as supervise at two psychoanalytic training institutes and doctoral clinical psychology programs.

Dr. Kantor has been amazing. Since my first appointment (date provided—- present) over a year ago, she’s been working with me on managing my anxiety and my depression. I feel that I have made some wonderful progress due to her carefullistening and the questions she poses to me each week. Dr. Kantor was also very helpful in putting me in contact with a colleague of hers when I expressed that I wanted to explore the possibility of going on anti anxiety medication, and then was there for me during that entire process. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Kantor’s services, my well being has drastically improved since I began seeing her each week.

I actually was a patient with Dr. Kantor for almost three years. It was a really tough time in my life, so I needed a therapist with a lot of compassion. Dr. Kantor delivered that in spades. She helped me analyzedifferent patterns throughout my life, as well as recognize the feelings that I had in any given situation. After our time together, I can honestly say that I'm in a better place and I have the tools to move forward with confidence in my ability to handle any given situation.

Dr. Kantor made me feel comfortable and safe. She listened closely to my thoughts and feelings and was very careful to properly articulate her own thoughts and analysis about what she heard. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a psychologist in New York City.

I felt both anxious and helpless until I started seeing Dr. Kantor. She has been a great help. In just very few sessions, Dr. Kantor was able to offer insights and identify problems that I was not able to understand/see bymyself. The biggest concern that I initially had with therapies was the possibility that even psychologists cannot help me with my problems. I do not wish to have a deeper sense of helplessness. I am very glad I gave it a try. Going to see her is one of the best decisions I ever made. Dr. Kantor is wise, calm and amicable; she lets you speak your mind freely. She was also able to make me think more rationally when I was too immersed in my pain to speak logically. She also helped me rebuild my confidence, a task that required meticulous attention. As an experienced psychologist, Dr. Kantor was very professional. She never once accidentally made me feel helpless, a task that I know only the best and experienced therapist can accomplish. She consistently gave me hope, a progress that was accomplished by her careful choice of words and her sincere will to help me. She's helping me recover at a very comfortable speed. If you happen to find yourself in despair or panic, or if you need to rebuild your life, seeing Dr. Kantor would definitely be very helpful. I appreciate her help greatly.
