Evan Donin, APRN, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
34921 US Hwy 19 N, Ste 160, Palm Harbor, FL
I’m a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and the founder of Sunshine Mental Wellness Associates, where I specialize in helping adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and related conditions—especially when prior treatments haven’t worked as well as hoped. Many of my patients come to me feeling frustrated, stuck, or overwhelmed after trying multiple medications without meaningful improvement. My approach is structured, thorough, and highly individualized. I take the time to ask targeted, in-depth questions so we can clearly understand what’s driving your symptoms and develop a treatment plan that is both effective and realistic. In addition to medication management, I offer advanced treatment options including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). TMS is a non-invasive, medication-free treatment that targets the underlying brain networks involved in mood, focus, and emotional regulation. It can be a good option for individuals who have not responded adequately to medications or prefer an alternative approach. I also offer cognitive testing to help evaluate attention, executive functioning, and related concerns, which can be helpful for individuals seeking clarity around ADHD or performance-related challenges. My goal is to provide care that is thoughtful, transparent, and results-driven. I want patients to feel confident that they are receiving a clear, well-structured plan—not just another trial-and-error approach. If you’re exploring TMS or looking for a more comprehensive and personalized approach to your mental health care, I’d be happy to meet with you for a consultation.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New patients should know that my approach is structured, thorough, and collaborative. I take the time to ask detailed, targeted questions so we can fully understand what’s contributing to your symptoms, rather than making quick assumptions or rushing into treatment decisions. Many patients come to me after feeling that prior care was too brief or overly focused on trial-and-error medication changes. My goal is to provide clarity—helping you understand what may be going on and why certain treatment options are being recommended. We’ll work together to develop a plan that is both clinically sound and realistic for your day-to-day life. Treatment may include medication management, therapy-informed strategies, and, when appropriate, advanced options such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). I also offer cognitive testing when additional diagnostic clarity is needed, particularly for attention and executive functioning concerns. During your visit, you can expect a professional, respectful environment where your concerns are taken seriously. I value transparency and will walk you through the reasoning behind any recommendations so you can make informed decisions about your care. My goal is not just symptom relief, but helping you feel more stable, functional, and confident in your treatment plan moving forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation where I take the time to understand your symptoms, history, and how your concerns are affecting your daily life. I ask structured, targeted questions to help identify patterns over time and arrive at a thoughtful, accurate diagnosis rather than making quick assumptions. We then work collaboratively to develop a personalized treatment plan. For many patients, this includes medication management, along with practical, therapy-informed strategies that can be applied in day-to-day situations. I focus on making sure you understand the reasoning behind any recommendations so you can make informed decisions about your care. Follow-up visits are typically more focused and goal-oriented. We review how you’re responding to treatment, make adjustments as needed, and address any new concerns. My approach is not just to prescribe medication, but to monitor progress closely and ensure that your treatment plan remains effective and aligned with your goals. While I do not provide formal weekly psychotherapy, my sessions are conversational and supportive, and I often incorporate elements of cognitive and behavioral strategies when appropriate. For patients who may benefit from additional services, I also offer cognitive testing for attention and executive functioning concerns, as well as consultations for advanced treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Overall, my goal is to provide care that is structured, transparent, and results-oriented, while helping you feel heard, understood, and confident in your treatment plan.

More information on payments and coverage

We strive to make the payment process as transparent and straightforward as possible. For general psychiatric services (such as evaluations and follow-up visits), we accept a variety of commercial insurance plans, which can be verified through Zocdoc or by contacting our office directly. Copays, deductibles, and coverage will vary depending on your individual plan. For Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), the initial consultation appointment may be covered by your commercial insurance, depending on your benefits. Please note that TMS consultation appointments are conducted in person only, given the personalized and technical nature of developing an individualized treatment plan. The TMS treatment sessions themselves are currently offered on a cash-pay basis. This is due to the specific device and treatment model used in our practice, which is not yet broadly covered by insurance plans. We understand that this can be a significant investment, and we aim to be transparent about costs upfront. To help make treatment more accessible, we offer flexible payment options, including third-party financing through CareCredit and Denefits. Payment for services is typically collected at the time of the visit. For patients pursuing reimbursement for out-of-network services, we can provide a superbill upon request that you may submit to your insurance company. If you have any questions about coverage, costs, or payment options, we encourage you to reach out prior to your appointment so we can help you better understand your options.
