Getting to know Exie Lamar

My name is Exie Lamar. I am licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I have been practicing as a nurse practitioner since 2015. I treat both children and adults. I have experience diagnosing and treating clients with several mental health conditions. I believe that a person's mental health determines how they think, feel, and act. When a person's mental health is managed well, they will have a positive feeling about themselves and cope well with everyday pressures. I earned my Master's in Family Health Nursing from Walden University and completed a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from South College.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use the client-centered approach, which allows the client the opportunity to take part in their treatment approach. My approach is focusing on building a therapeutic client and provider relationship which allows the client to feel comfortable and trust sharing information about their mental health with me. My goal is to provide exceptional results by using clear communication and med management.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will be providing medication management. The initial intake process usually last about 45-60 minutes. During the initial intake, I will gather information about your current and past medical/mental health conditions. The initial intake is the time that we get to know each other and start building a strong and trusting client-provider relationship. The follow up visit are much quicker, which last around 20 minutes for medication management. I will gather information about your symptoms to come up with an appropriate diagnoses and prescribe medications to manage your mental health condition(s).

This provider had a highly unprofessional manner. She seemed entirely uninterested in what I was saying, did not look up at the camera for the duration of the appointment, and only asked questions akin to those forms typically filled out before an appointment and was reading off the screen stumbling through those. A significant portion of my appointment was her asking me to verbally provide my personal information such as name and address so that she could input it into the prescription portal. It’s been almost a week since my appointment and my pharmacy has yet to receive a prescription, so I am halfway through the time she gave until a “follow up on the medication” and I haven’t had the chance to even take it.
