About Dr. Filippo Filicori

I am a Board Certified Minimally Invasive Surgeon specializing in Robotic, Laparoscopic, and Endoscopic treatment of Obesity and Disorders of the Upper Gastrointestinal tract. I use technologies that allow the best outcomes and shortest recovery times, tailoring each approach to my patients’ needs. Regarding weight loss, I offer a wide range of treatment modalities including Intragastric Balloon placement, Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty, Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Robotic Gastric Bypass, Robotic Duodenal Switch, and Revisional Surgery for persistent weight gain. I also focus on treating disorders of the Upper Gastrointestinal tract such as Reflux (GERD), Stomach Cancer, Achalasia, Esophageal Spastic Disorders, and Gastroparesis. For these, a variety of options are available, including Robotic fundoplication, LINX device, TIF, POEM, Pyloroplasty, and Gastric Stimulator. I routinely manage complex general surgery patients with conditions such as hernias, cholecystitis, appendicitis, diverticulitis, small bowel obstruction, and Colon Cancer. I continuously strive to integrate minimally invasive approaches to provide the best recovery times. My primary research interests include Robotic Bariatric Surgery, focusing on metabolic outcomes of Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy, as well as minimally invasive treatments for reflux and gastroesophageal neoplastic and dysmotility disorders (Gastric Cancer, GERD, Achalasia, Barrett's esophagus, Nutcracker Esophagus, Gastric polyps, Gastroparesis). I have authored more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, presented 30 times at international meetings, and contributed 2 book chapters on these topics. I completed my medical education at Università degli Studi di Bologna Scuola di Medicina e Chirurgia. My internship and residency in General Surgery were at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
