They were very busy when I came in to the office but they worked very hard to get everyone seen. Dr. Ast was wonderful as well as the nurse!. The only thing I didn't like was he asked me to send my medical records, normally the doctor obtains those from the hospital! Otherwise I will keep him as a PCP for sure!
Doctor was very polite. His assistant is straight to the point.
Although the wait time was about 45 minutes, Dr. Ast is an excellent doctor. He answered all my questions and concerns, and was thorough with my care. The nurses have an excellent bedside manner as well.
I was very happy with my visit, despite the wait time (which was a result of a very demanding hospital and office schedule). The medical assistant was extremely thorough, and the front desk staff were both professional, courteous and very accommodating. This is a well-run practice and Dr Ast is an accomplished clinician. I look forward to recommending him to family and friends
The whole experience was unbelievably bad. This doctor shares his office with another physician so his name is not even on the door. I had to ask the doorman who directed through a basically unmarked door. The inside was dingy and dark. The receptionist couldn't find my appointment and then it turned out to be the wrong reception desk (there was no indication or explanation why there were two reception desks or which one was for which doctor). The administrative staff were curt and unfriendly. I waited for over an hour to see the doctor even though there did not appear to be many people there. There was no explanation or apology. The doctor was dismissive when I tried to explain the dates of the labs I brought with me. It was like he was reading from a script. When he said his piece and I finally explained the dates on the labs he agreed that blood had to be taken. The person taking the blood was not able to get the blood flowing. It took two of them multiple tries to draw the blood, and eventually the doctor decided that he didn't need one of the tests after all because the blood was too hard to draw. Finally I got out of there. I waited for over a month and did not hear anything about my results so I called the office - again, the receptionist was very rude and just said the doctor would call me back. It turned out they lost my blood - blamed it on the laboratory but at this point I don't even care I would never go back here or recommend this doctor or practice to anyone. It was a complete waste of time and energy and it is astounding that such an unprofessional practice could possibly exist.
I wanted a primary care doctor I could relate to. Dr. Ast was very thorough and reminded me of how doctors use to be.
I struggle to believe this is a legal, legitimate practice. Both office phones are frequently disconnected or routed to operators. Have not received a call back with my blood work after 3 weeks of trying. Absolutely disgusting, unethical, and likely illegal.
Great doctor and medical aid, office staff somewhat aloof detracting from an otherwise great visit
Dr. Ast is one of the kindest and sincere Doctor's I've ever met. He remembers my personal details from 6 year back.
The front desk staff was disorganized, unprofessional, and rude. The doctor himself was demeaning and spoke down to me. I was extremely disappointed with my visit and will not be returning.
Everything is too quick. Doesn't have time to really listen to why one is there. Just wants to run you through the process. This thing this ok here here ok take care.
Good to see a true allergist/dr for allergies/asthma, get there (30 st office) early to sign papers first time. Nurses and allergist helpful
It was a great experience from greeting the friendly staff to meeting the doctor. I look forward to working along with the doctor in my care.
I love Dr. Ast the first time I saw him. Good bedside manner and very informative. However, the second visit was horrible. The office staff failed to notify me that the location I was going to was temporary closed, so I got there and found the door locked. I called the other office location to find out what happened, there was no apology from the person who picked up my call. In fact, she was even a bit insistent that I "must have received a call about the office being closed". She suggested me to go to the other location right away. I did. When I got there, I waited two hours to see Dr. Ast. The front desk again didn't apologize for their lack of communication, barely even looked at me while I was waiting. Worse yet, two months later, I found out they send my blood work to a lab that doesn't take my insurance so I now owe the lab a lot of money! I called Dr. Ast's office thinking that they should be responsible of it. The staff told me "Dr. Ast said he will take care of it". I waited almost two months and it was still not resolved and no one from the office ever got back to me. I really want to like Dr. Ast for his good bedside manner, but all of those issues make it very difficult.
The doctor was kind but the front desk staff was unorganized, uninformed, and unprofessional.
Efficient and friendly, very encouraging- asking questions, listening to my thoughts and opinion. I'm really glad I found him :)
Outstanding doctor that really takes his time with the patient.
Sorry I can't still see him; hours are not convenient with work and I have another doctor I need to see regularly during the week.
The doctor is very pleasant and kind - will certainly see him again.
every doctor should be as wonderful as dr. ast!!!!!!
ALWAYS available. Takes an incredible amount of personal interest in every aspect of your care. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. He's a wonderful doctor and a caring man.
This practice is massively disorganized, requests need to be chased every day.
Excellent physician. Verty professional.
Dr asked a lot of questions, which I totally liked. As a first time patient I didn't feel rushed. I was able to truly and in-depth explain what I've been feeling and going through. He appeared genuinely concerned. I had good vibes from him. We'lo see how the next few visits go. I'm totally optimistic
This man was amazing. Knowledgable, professional and a good listener. If you want to experience what a true physician is, come see Dr. Ast.
Excellent professional, taking time to listen to patient
Everything was good except for the waiting time , I spent more than an hour waiting and that's a long time, if you have an appointment they should be able to take care of you right away.
Dr. Frederick was very kind and well spoken. His staff are very nice . Transpirtation is not a problem at all to get there. I highly recommend this doctor anytime
Doctor Ast had perhaps the best bedside manner of any doctor I've ever had. I normally have a terrible reaction to having blood drawn but he was extremely accommodating and did so in a way that created the least anxiety I've ever had at a doctors office. He also took a surprisingly thorough history and recommended a great podiatrist, too.
Dr. Ast is a very professional and knowledgeable doctor. He helped me in reducing the dosage of the steroids to minimal which I could not do for years.
Answered questions and was pretty knowledgeable.
I was very disappointed. They were not aware of the apt I'd made through Zoc-Doc and were not prepared for the reason I'd come in. I assume that's also why I waited so long to be seen. Basically, if the provider had reviewed my chart/request prior to the visit I likely wouldn't have had to even gone in- he couldn't help me much. Felt like a waste of time and money. I considered asking to cancel the apt and get my co-pay back, but that seemed futile.
The front desk receptionist wasn't pleasant, but the Dr was amazing, patient, very detailed. I will definitely keep him.
probably good dr. but the only thing i get from him motrin 600
Didn't have me in the system, said something about their system not syncing up with zoc doc. they squeezed me in but had to wait a while. didnt really solve any of my allergy questions.
Dr. Azt seems to be very knowledgeable. He took more time than most of my doctors in talking with me and explaining the tests he wanted to run and what factors he thinks are causing my issues. That being said, the office seems rather disorganized. They were running behind schedule.
This was my first appointment with Dr. Ast. His staff was very nice and I was seen extremely quickly. I hope my future appointments go as well as this one did!
I always enjoy my visits to Dr Ast. He is very kind and thorough. The Dr. now shares patients with another Dr specializing in joint pain. Dr Ast seems more relaxed, it's working.
I was the first person in the office this morning when they opened, but I did have to wait about 35 minutes. However, once I saw the doctor I was very pleased. He was very kind, methodical in his questioning, listened to me intently, and thoroughly discussed our plan of action and next steps. I felt very comfortable with him and he wasn't rushed at all - he let me take time to ask all of my questions. This was only my first appointment, but so far so good!
2 weeks since my physical. called twice. still no call back. I just want my results
I came to the office for a long overdue annual physical along with a few questions pertaining to recurring upper respiratory infections and trouble sleeping. To address my sleeping concerns, the doctor Googled it for me while I was in the office (while not entirely unhelpful, I could and did do this on my own time) and referred me to the sleep institute across town (those guys were really helpful). When mentioned the recurring upper respiratory infections, the doctor insisted that I should have an allergy test done. I consented, returned later for the test (which was entirely inconclusive), and only afterwards realized that this was an expensive test and not full covered by my insurance. While it is partially my fault that I didn't ask about this upfront, it would have been great to have gotten a heads up from the allergy-specialist doctor that the allergy test he was pushing me to take would be costing me. During my visit for my complete physical, they drew my blood and I began feeling faint (not an uncommon thing to happen as far as I understand). The physician's aid administering the blood-taking process certainly lost his cool and did not know what to do without chasing down the primary doctor to have lie me down and bring me water.
One of the best Doc's you'll ever find in the city!!!
He was very kind and caring. He was open to listening, however, sometimes interrupted and attempted to finish your sentences. The office isn't super clean and organized. The lady at the front was nice.
Dr. Ast is very attentive and thorough. I appreciate his consultations and I will continue to go to him until I can locate a PCP with Saturday hours who lives closer to Brooklyn.
I am a patient for over 6 year. While moving around the city and charging neighborhoods I never look for a replacement. Dr. Ast is an extremely knowledgeable and very accurate with diagnoses he provides. He is also an Astma-allergie specialist so you don't need an allergist either:) You will never feel rushed with Dr. Ast. Your annual check ups will be as detailed and thorough as you never experienced before. AMAZING doctor and very knowledgable team.
He spent time with me and listened. No rush. Very thorough. Great staff too.
Dr. Ast gave me good, practical advice.
Dr. Ast has a heart of gold. He really cares about his patients, he is calm and efficient. I feel so good in his care.
Dr. Ast was very professional and helpful. I was there for an annual physical and I felt satisfied with the examination.
Dr. Ast was kind, caring and got to the point. He is the first doctor I have seen in almost 2 years that wants to get to the bottom of my health concerns as badly as I do. See this doctor if you want to get to the root of your issue with the bonus of a friendly visit with a great and honest man.
Dr. Ast provided me with clarity and a diagnosis for something that I had been suffering with and confused about for several years - Fibromyalgia. He was thorough, informative and very willing to help. The office offers many modalities for treatment. I was seen right away. Highly recommended.
Only doctor to accurately diagnose me in 15 years.
Dr. Ast is very experienced and knowledgeable in his field. i have been going to him for almost 10 years.
It was great. Like always. Excellent doctor.
Dr. Ast has a full service, extremely organized office. Great physician. Dedicated and caring staff A++
I felt secure that he was thorough and will help me find out the cause of my various symptoms. I like his step by step approach.
Dr. Ast has been my doctor for over 15 years.i feel very confident and comfortable with all of his decision. Also the staff is wonderful
He is very caring
Dr. Ast is both professional and personable. He took my concerns seriously and his staff is friendly.
As usual I enjoyed my meeting with Dr. Ast. I had some concerns that he was able to address very quickly, and he was also able to direct me to a specialist that's going to help make some pain management progress. He was friendly and took my worries seriously. Really I couldn't ask for anything more other than wishing we had more time to talk, but I suspect he is a very busy man because he's very good at his job! Also, as a side note, the other staff at Dr. Ast's office are very friendly. Just great people all around.
He is the best! Spends a lot of time with you. Sometimes things are hectic in the office and he gets behind, but he's worth the wait because he answers all questions and is very, very helpful. You can tell he's really listening.
I was a little late for my first visit due to traffic and they took me anyway. Even though I had to wait a short while, by the time I was in Dr Ast's office a few minutes, I knew I needed to cancel my afternoon plans. I was in a severe active flareup and he took immediate action, including pulling in members of his team to help. No one had ever suggested I see a physical therapist before. No one had ever been so proactive and certain of what to do next to determine what was happening. And he's kind and personable too. When I felt a little feint, he said it was a normal reaction and not to feel ashamed of the physicological response. It was incredible. And my voice was an active and heard part of the conversation. No one spoke above me but with me. That was empowering!
The office is super friendly and organized, and it's a luxury that we can book on zocdoc. The staff is welcoming and attentive. Dr Ast is very thorough and answered all my questions as well as made numerous suggestions to help. It's a busy office so there might be a brief wait time but the care you get is above and beyond the norm. AAA Plus!
I was pretty scared to see a rheumatologist for the first time, since I was coming to him with a laundry list of items (which, if you're seeing a rheumatologist, is likely what you're gonna do!). He was very kind, thoughtful, intelligent, thorough, and most importantly (to me), he really seemed to listen to what I was saying. I am very excited to be working with him and I would strongly recommend seeing him. My only complaint is that he seemed really busy and everything was a bit rushed, but I'm willing to deal with that considering how great he was. Go in there with your list of meds and various symptoms, be prepared. That will help things go nice and smoothly.
very attentive.great doctor
Dr. Ast was great, but his staff was the absolute worst I have ever dealt with. The nurses were rude and unfriendly. During my initial exam by the nurse before Dr. Ast came in she left the door open and there were other patients walking by which was in no way private. She also had a very unprofessional bedside manner. Dr. Ast came in and was helpful and informative and referred me to a G.I. in the office, but told me I would have to wait three weeks for his next available appointment. When I went back for my appointment with the GI (with the appointment card the office staff had written for me in hand), they said there was a mistake in scheduling and the G.I. was only in every other week and I would have to come in the following week. Accidents happen and I was understanding- the woman was also very apologetic and said she was going to speak to Dr. Ast about the situation and give me a call if they could see me sooner (I never got a call). I came back for my appointment the following week and the same woman at the front desk informed me that the G.I. no longer worked there and there was nothing she could do because it wasn't her responsibility to call the G.I.'s patients and cancel the appointments. I never got a call from the office notifying me that he had left the office, no referral to another G.I. and no apology from the office. I waited a month to see a G.I. and never did because of this office's disorganization. I will not be going back as they clearly have no concern for the health or wellbeing of their patients. Also a lack of communication and the fact that I wasted time traveling to and from the office for no reason was seriously disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone.
He is amazing! I will recommend anyone to him ! Funny , and caring ! Makes sure you don't worry and explains things well . Loved him and hope to find a primary care just as amazing
I've seen Dr. Ast as my primary care physician and as an allergist this year. Good doc, and very professional.
Dr. Ast is very good. Been going to him a long time. He is a nice person. I wasn't entirely satisfied with this last visit, as I felt there had been some oversights. The office really needs work as they are on the shabby side and the staff, though well meaning, seemed fairly confused.
Good doctor. The office was in a good location and pretty nice office. Would recommend for a check up
This doctor was hopeless. His response to my medical questions on more than one occasion was " that's a good question, I'm not sure" and he also forgot to screen my blood for a specifically requested test.
Good and intelligent doctor
Dr. Ast is very professional and he listens to what you have to say.
Dr. Ast is friendly and knowledgeable, but a bit absent-minded. In his defense, he runs a busy office, but he depends on his patients to follow-up and manage their health. I will say, it is very difficult to find a good Primary Care doctor, and Dr. Ast's services work for me. They just might not work for everyone.
Dr Ast Frederick is very experienced professional and understands his patient's needs very well.
office staff was nice enough, not very professional. They talked very loud in the waiting room area. When I finally saw the Dr, he seemed to rush to get the physical therapist in to see me. While i was talking to the PT, the Dr disappeared and I didn't see him again. No follow up.
Dr Ask was very knowledgeable of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Me being a young female, he gave me a lot of information on how to live with it. He wants to continue to see me.
I saw Dr. Ast for rheumatoid arthritis treatment as a new patient. He was extremely thorough and attentive and had a great bedside manner. I felt like he really listened to me, was very responsive to my questions and seemed very focused on creating a treatment plan specific to my needs. I highly recommend him.
Although my visit with Dr. Ast was fine, he is near-impossible to reach by phone. I have been trying to ask a simple question about one of my medications and calling almost every day for the past three weeks. On the occasions when the staff actually do pick up the phone, they tell me that he will call back, but he never does. I know he's busy but a (at least!) three week wait for a phone call is unacceptable.
I especially liked the nurse who took my vitals and blood samples. She was hilarious, down-to-earth, and exactly the kind of person you'd want to encounter in a doctor's office.
He is great and he really helped me
Dr. Ast was good and helpful - I waited awhile, but that was because the other doctor in the office was out sick, so he had to take on alot of other patients with appointments, so it was fine. He was rushed, but still did a good job at quickly assessing issues I had, and giving a general physical.
He's very impersonal and rushed, barely makes eye contact. I was not rushed, but twice he suggested that I was, which was disconcerting and comes off as pushy. His phone line has an enormous amount of static, making conversation impossible and off-putting. The nurses were very efficient and friendly.
I like this doctor, but I don't believe I will be using ZocDoc to book anymore.
I liked the Dr. but the office staff was completely incompetent. Made mistakes on several prescriptions, were completely unpleasant to deal with, didn't return calls etc. I had to write two letters to the Dr to get the mistakes fixed and money I paid for incorrect prescriptions credited.
Dr. Ast is an excellent and knowledgeable doctor. He is very patient and takes the time to understand any concerns I have, and also pushes things along when he knows I am in a rush.
He was very knowledgeable and very experienced, I had some questions and he was very helpful in giving me clear answers and directions. He was also very patient, I didn't feel like I was being rushed through the appointment. He even took the time to show me a helpful website where I could find all the useful medical research articles. Highly recommended.
Great Doctor! Very thorough and focused. Cares about his specialty.
Absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff was awesome and fast. Dr. Ast could not be more helpful or nice of a guy. I feel so blessed to have come upon him on my insurance! ;)
I recently experienced malpractice from a doctor I trusted, leaving me in an incredible amount of pain. Dr. Ast and his team are the first doctors I've seen in a long time that have been able to restore my trust in medical care providers. He's kind and gentle and extremely knowledgeable. I feel positive for the first time in a long time about my recovery. I can't recommend him enough.
Very knowledgable and helpful. Explained everything thoroughly, highly recommend.
I've been a patient of Dr. Ast for years. He's one of the best doctors I've seen. The assistants are also nice. The wait time is always minimal if at all.
Follow ups are unreliable. Office staff are not terribly helpful but that's pretty much standard in NYC right?
He was knowledgeable and answered questions.
Always kind, comfortable, helpful and informative.
Great Dr and very attentive. Would highly recommend to anyone.
The doctor is good, however the office is really choatic. we had our ultrasound and xrays sent a few times and everytime we go there he refers us to get them again.
I love Dr. Ast. He is so caring and never males you feel rushes. Also, he always has great refferals.
The entire staff was warm and welcoming, yet incredibly busy and unprofessional. I was seen about an hour after the time of my appointment by a nurse practitioner who lacked some basic medical knowledge and who wasted much of my appointment typing things I'd written via ZocDoc into the office's proprietary system. Otherwise, he/she was cheerful and did a good job with routine tasks until it was time to see "the doc." Dr. Ast was very rushed and never asked me why I was there before taking measurements. I had to intervene and explain my purpose for visiting. After explaining, he displayed no particular interest in helping me get well and responded matter-of-factly that I needed to see other specialists. He didn't seem to have any well-researched recommendations. I'm perfectly capable of doing this, but I'd say I don't think this is a great place to go if you want somebody to help you find a solution to your health problems. I'm not sure I got anything out of my visit other than a standard blood test. I'll be finding another GP.
Very kind, patient and professional.. Highly recommend him!!
He is good and friendly person explain everything easly
good as a specialist - not sure about him as a primary care physician. He didn't ask enough of the general questions. Too focused on one issue.
Nice and friendly doc
Dr. Ast never contacted me regarding a series of tests and scans he had me do. Since then, he has not returned my calls for weeks to provide me with any sort of update. He clearly doesn't have time to bring on any more patients.
Not very thorough, and didn't seem to care about anything I told him.
Dr. Ast took good care of me but he was in a rush. The receptionists were paying attention to other things in the cellphones. They run some blood tests but took over a month to get back to me after making 4 phone calls. The place is really old and not very well kept
made me feel comfortable awesome bedside manor made me and my girlfriend feel at easy I will be going to her again I already rebooked her
I've been a patient of Dr. Ast's for 20 years and I totally trust him
I visited to Frederick Ast a couple times, but the last one was the definitive to not come back again. He even could be hilarious for his nervous personality. However, when I asked him something related with vaccines and then he started look for the answer in google... I really felt concerned. He is okay, but definitely he needs improve in his manners.
I was very pleased with Dr. Ast. He was very knowledgable and gave me several options in dealing with my allergies.
First off everyone In the office is very professional and friendly. Dr Ast was informative and listened to all my questions. I am glad I made him my PCP and would recommend him to others.
The nurses were talking about a patient out loud i could hear them they kept complaining about her that was extremly rude Very long wait without saying sorry. Not recomended at all.
It was wonderful. I received the right treatment for my left inflammated knee.
He was very knowledgeable in his field of expertise and explaining options available. He immediately knew how to go forward with a plan of care. I am blessed to have found him. He has excellent communications skills which means he listens! Thank you Dr. Ast for helping me on the road to a better quality of life!.
I could tell he really listened as I explained my symptoms. I have a weird case, and I truly believe he will do everything to get to the bottom of it. The wait time was long, but the doctor himself was worth the wait. The staff was very friendly, as well.
Excellent, prompt, and the doctor's office staff is wonderful as well. Highly recommended!
Very nice doctor- patient and professional. He made me feel at ease and took the time to explain his prognosis. He even brought in the PT to take a look at me for another issue I hadn't even come in for. Will definitely be back.
Great experience, glad I found Dr. Ast!
Dr. Ast is a courteous and highly knowledgable doctor. He's patient and takes the time to explain things to you. He will also point you in the right direction if you want to delve more into the topic. A great doctor! Absolutely recommend.
I made Dr. Ast my primary doctor.
Not very attentive. Seemed like a perfunctory visit. Didn't feel comfortable talking to him about personal medical issues.
the wait time is really bad I went there on my lunch hour and although my appointment was at 2:15 didnt get seen till 3:15. he is good and informative, but not good for in between office hours when working during lunch visit.
The doctor was very pleasant. My only negatives are with my insurance company for being so terrible. His staff is fun and personable. He's very well studied in his field and willing to break down costs so you understand what your options are before moving forward. I was hoping to just walk in and get a miracle drug for seasonal allergies and ended up coming out with three drugs to use simultaneously.
Dr. Ast has been great in treating my RA. He listens and adjusts my treatment when needed.
NO WASTE OF TIME,DIAGNOSED,CONCURRED WITH MY WISHES,TREATED AND OUT.
I had a wonderful experience with everyone in the office, despite my insurance company being a nightmare! The office staff and doctor went out of their way to make sure I felt well cared for, and they were efficient and quick with all my needs.
Ive been going to Dr. Ast for several years and am very happy with the dr.-patient relationship.
I thought Dr. Ast's office was one of the most unprofessional that I have ever been to in my life. The office doesn't seem clean (definitely not sterile). On my first visit, I was taken into a room (with a bunch of allergy medicine) and asked to take off my shirt. While I waited (a very long time), at least three nurses, assistants walked in to get allergy medicine, often times leaving the door open so that anyone walking by could see me half-naked. The nurse asked me what conditions ran in my family and I mentioned diverticulitis, she had never heard of it and had to look it up on google! This did not engender me with hope. Then Dr. Ast's patient/bed side manner was LESS than pleasant. He clearly didn't care about me, just wanted to do the job and show me out. Fortunately I finally got insurance that allowed me to go back to my old doctor whom I love. I do NOT recommend Dr. Ast to anyone!
Great doctor, have been seeing him for a few years. Very professional and courteous.
Dr. Ast is very thorough and is a kind person and a great listener. He's very helpful with my fibromyalgia & all my ailments.
Was great, but I think I'm leaning towards the sublingual immunotherapy (allergy drop) treatment, instead of the allergy shots.
very gentle, kind man
I waited for over an hour before I was seen.
The doctor is very professional. One of the techs had an attitude for no good reason
The doctor was worth the wait but my appointment was at 10:30 got out at 1:20 and the receptionist looked unpleasant and her colleague didn't stop arguing wit a customer on the phone over 45 mins! Pretty annoying if you are sick!
I feel like he cares and he's listening.
I always appreciate the time that Dr. Ast spends with me during my appointments. Unlike many doctors, I never feel that he is rushing to get to the next patient. He listens to me and respects my concerns. When I first started seeing him for widespread body pain and fatigue, he took me seriously and diagnosed fibromyalgia--unlike the doctors I had seen before him who treated me like I was just drug-seeking for pain meds. I am so happy I found him.
I have seen Dr. Ast 4 times now, and yes his office is run a bit differently, but his employees are absolutely helpful, and he has been great. He spent over 30 minutes with me today, and I feel like every appointment has been very thorough.
Great doctor, but they need to work on their time management and scheduling.
Very knowledgeable, thorough, and straightforward.
He was running from one paten to the other. Doesn't give me the feeling that he is cruelly listening. And when in came to medical decisions (which tests to do), he was asking me. Unfortunately, I didn't study medicine, doc.
Courteous and professional. Always listens to my thoughts on treatment or concerns.
Dr.Ast is a very nice and attentive allergist.
Awkward doctor, I wouldn't go back. The nurse was not knowledgeable at all and I had to literally spell words out for her with regard to my medical history. She was nice, though, and gentle with my blood test.
He is very knowledgable in jus field.
When you get to actually see him, he seemed very nice and knowledgeable.
Dr. Ast is a very patient doctor and takes the time to explain things (i.e., procedure, necessary diet change, etc.).
I was pleasantly content with the manner of how it all fell into place, Like I have been here before, very comfortable, positive enivironment. I would happily recommend his practice to my family and friends, I was also pleasantly surprized that this physican has 3 coats to wear as a practitioner, to put 3 dimension into one view and with very nice manners. Thank You
Excellent doctor. Very intelligent, answers your needs. Not a doctor that writes prescriptions and dismisses patient. He is open to questions and seems highly experienced. I definetly will continue to him.
I felt rushed and there was no consultation.
An overall fine experience but could do a better job explaining symptoms and treatment as a first time allergy sufferer.
I visited Dr. Ast for allergies and he was very thorough and professional.
I felt very good about my visit and felt like i was in capable hands with Dr. Ast.
I had a very pleasant experience. This was my first visit to a GP in Manhattan and I will be back. Dr. Ast was very gracious.
Extremely communicative, honest and concerned. He's a great doctor to get honest advice or comfortable treatment from.
Please find a different 'allergist'. This individual and practice was a complete waste of time and money to visit. - Prior to appointment, two separate individuals, patients, came in with complaints that the incorrect prescription was prescribed to them at two separate times. - Doctor was UNETHICAL. - Doctor started off the appointment by saying that there is a LARGE CHANCE that he would not be able to determine what I was allergic to. - Doctor stated in the beginning of the appointment that it is possible that the allergies would just 'go away'. - Informed me of LARGE deductible AFTER 6 of 8 pin prick trays were already used on my forearms. When I asked him why I wasn't informed of this charge when they had already collected payment from me, he told me I was lucky I didn't have to pay 10 times that amount. Then he walked out. - Did not give me a choice to say 'no' to the testing because I was not informed of the deductible. - Result sheet was incorrect, stating only ONE allergy rather than FOUR present allergies (shown on my arm as FOUR HIVES). I had to alert the nurse, who confirmed it was incorrect and then fixed it. - Doctor did NOT discover what I was allergic to from two nights ago, which was why I came here in the first place! - Front desk staff was not helpful.
It was my first time visiting this doctor, and he did not ask any questions about my life personally in trying to understand my breathing issues. He basically said he didn't know what the problem was and threw a bunch of prescriptions at me. He gave me a steroid shot and said that it may cause some weight gain, "but you're already overweight, so, eh". Just overall unpleasant, and if he had taken some time to get to know me/my career he would have understood why not being able to breathe (aside from the fact that I'm a human) is so important to me and I probably wouldn't have had a panic attack at his undermining of the issue. He did give me a breathing treatment, which temporarily helped, but obviously was not a cure all. It felt like he just wanted to get rid of me.
The visit was very pleasant. Dr. Ast knew exactly what my problem was, diagnose me immediatelly and referred me for Therapy and now I feel better.
He is an allergist, not a general physician.
Very prompt and courteous, was taken into the exam room 2 minutes after my scheduled appointment.
Amazing, patient, thoughtful, thorough, empathetic. All the best qualities. Highly recommend!
He's great and patient. Very open to help.
I waited in the waiting room for Dr. Ast for 1 1/2 hours and then for about another 30 min in the consultation room. The waiting room had an annoying infomercial running on a loop. When the doctor finally did show up he was abrupt, repeatedly interrupted me, didn't seem to be listening to anything that I said and then sent me for an x-ray that I did not need. I have additional telephone conversations with him for the blood work results from this appointment and he was much more present in these conversations. Perhaps he was just having a bad day on the day of my appointment.
Nice and thorough
I have never had such a bad experience at a doctor’s office. First, I arrived at 1:58pm, for my 2:00pm appointment, and the office door was locked. At 2:05pm, I called the phone number, which transferred me to the office's operator (who works at a different location). She told me that the doctor works at another office and gets to the location I'm at, at 2:00pm... Why would a doctor schedule my appointment for the same time he's supposed to arrive? Wouldn't it make sense to schedule it for 30 minutes after arriving, in order to set up (the entire staff doesn't arrive until 2:00pm)? Fifteen minutes later, I called again (since I was still locked outside the office----now with 8 other people) and the operator said, "that's strange he's not there yet...” to which I responded, "well, can you call and find out where he is?” to which she replied, "Umm...let me check if I have a number for him." Why wouldn't the doctor's operator have his number?! After putting me on hold for 10 minutes, I finally just hung up. A man who worked in the same office building walked by the office door, and said to me, “I see patients locked out here all the time and screaming on the phone. I’m sure the doctor’s a great guy and all, but he seems very unprofessional.” Finally, at 2:35pm, the doctor, and his staff, arrived to the locked office (where I, and now 9 other, visibly upset patients, waited outside). After a casual and unapologetic, “I’m sorry.” with no eye contact towards anyone, the doctor opened his office door. The staff set up the office in ten minutes and began taking patients. The other 9 people told me with me, that they didn’t have an appointment, because they were just getting their allergy shots (which supposedly doesn’t require an appointment). So I assumed, since I had an appointment, that I’d be first…. but that wasn’t the case. After three people were seen before me, I was finally brought to a room. An unfriendly nurse, who wouldn’t look in my direction, walked in asked me some questions and left (without saying, “the doctor will be right with you.” or “it’ll just be a few minutes.”). The doctor walked in 5 minutes later, didn’t look at me, and said, “I’ll be back.” 5 minutes later, he comes in and starts asking me questions, while he types on the computer. It was evident he wasn’t listening to me, because he asked me the same questions over and over, and would confuse my answers from different questions. He then told me that they can’t do scratch testing (which is the whole reason I went to him in the first place), because I was supposed to get off Zyrtec for 48 hours. I was annoyed as hell! Nobody told me that beforehand! Wouldn’t that be something to mention to a patient coming in for allergy testing?! The Doctor said he’ll do blood testing, and I’ll come back later for the scratch testing. He then left the room, without saying a word. A couple of minutes went by, and a different nurse walked into the room. She asked me if the doctor explained the breathing test to me (as she carried in some sort of small machine). I told her I had no idea what she was talking about, and she said she’d get him and be right back. A couple of minutes went by, and the nurse from earlier came in the room. She brought a sheet for me to fill out (for which allergies to get tested for) and then took my blood. I told her about the other nurse that came in for a breathing test, and she said she’ll go get her. A few minutes later, she came back and told me that the other nurse made a mistake, and that I didn’t need the breathing test. The nurse then said that I was all done, and that I can leave. I left the room and went up to the receptionist up front (to make my next appointment). After scheduling my next appointment, I asked if they do confirmation/reminder calls and she said no. So if I didn’t ask, I wouldn’t have known that. She then handed me a prescription, for an EpiPen, and I was completely confused (since I was never told I needed one, or that I was getting a prescription). I then asked her if I was done and I can leave, and she told me yes. Just as a was about to walk out the door, the receptionist yelled from across the room, “Wait! You have a co-pay.” I walked back to her, paid the co-pay (which she nearly forgot), and left. I have never had such a ridiculous experience, like this, in my life! If the doctor showed up 35 minutes late, seemed extremely apologetic, had a good excuse, and had a warm & friendly staff, I wouldn’t have minded waiting outside the locked office for so long. But the fact that he and his staff were so nonchalant about making the patients wait 35 minutes outside and making, what should have been, my 10-minute appointment, last 105 minutes, really frustrated me. I will be returning to him for the scratch test (since I don’t have much of a choice), and that will be my last visit to Dr. Ast. Although he may be a good doctor, he lacks ethics.
Felt cared for.
Visited on a Friday, my first time and the reception was just terrible. The wait was way too long, and staff was scrambling to find things including equipment, which made my visit even longer. Unprofessional is an understatement. Dr. Federick, however seemed knowledgable, was thorough and has a nice personality, and that's all you can really ask from your doctor. It's unfortunate that his staff isn't well- trained.
Dr. Frederick was really helpful and to the point as was his staff.
Very nice, great experience.
Dr Ast dismissed my concerns and rushed me out so fast that my examination was over before it began. Not taking patients' complaints seriously can have disastrous results, and I will not be going back.
Very nice, helpful and informative. Would definitely recommend.
office is a little crummy looking but dr ast is a nice guy. friendly. staff was fine.
Great! He is very knowledgeable and personable.
He was nice and helpful. He got right to the point and got me out of there quickly. The rest of the staff however was not too friendly.
Straight to the point, feel so much better...got back to me with results as soon as he received it.. :-) staff a little snotty but nothing you can handle.
It was pleasant. Staff very friendly.
My visit with Dr Ast was very good He was familiar with my other health conditions, and prescribed medications accordingly.
The front desk was extremely unfriendly, the doctor took a phone call about a radio interview during my exam, he didn't seem to be taking what I was saying that seriously, and the whole thing was so rushed that it felt like a big waste of my time. Personally, Dr Ast seemed friendly and likable enough, but I won't be going back.
The office staff is a little sloppy and disconnected.
I was greatly disappointed with my 1.5 hours wait time. I don't understand why office visits are not more prompt with appointment times. Sadly, I would not be returning.
He was really nice and kind. But never called to me to send my results, for this reason I don't give 5 starts.
He is nice and knows his medicine.
Office needs a remodel. It's a bit dirty. Otherwise, great.
Dr. Frederick Ast was so attentive and genuinely cautious about my health issues
Very nice, very thorough!
The office had some technical difficulties during my appointment. I expected the office to have my electronic medical history but I was required to refill by hand during my appointment time. I believe Dr. Ast will figure out the reason for my symptoms and I will definitely follow up with him.
He is very knowledgeble and caring professional . Excellent!!!
Very caring doctor and feel fortunate to have made the appointment so quickly.
The receptionist at the front was unpleasant both on the phone and in person. She also did not have the zocdoc appointment I made and said that she never checks the website to see who makes appointments so I had to wait over an hour to see the doctor. When I did see him he was rushed since so many people were waiting for flu and allergy shots. He did answer all of my questions and was polite.
Very friendly and caring - even patient with my endless questions and asking that tests be taken twice for accurate readings.
Great, knowledgeable doctor, great bedside manner, caring, smart. He can be your primary physician, allergist and if you need one like me, a rheumatologist in one!
Frederick and his nurses were very nice. Frederick specifically was informative and had a great bed side manner. I was nervous at first because the office seemed a bit messy and chaotic....but I was in and out quickly with everything i needed. I would def go back.
Dr. Ast and Dr Kuo are very helpful and thoughtful.
Everything went the way it should be I'm Happy with the serves i reserved
Competent and warm professional. Saw him for a general annual exam and he was quite thorough.
everyone there was quite nice. the PT Ricki was very nice and very patient and expalined everything. Dr. Ast asked pertinent questions and did take a bit of time to look at blood work sent over by my MD. the place good use a litle tidying up but overall, it was a good experience and i am returning for PT.
He was helpful and thorough. Easy with follow up. Will keep him as my primary care doctor.
i appreciate all the information and attention that my child received. thank you.
This doctor didn't even look at me when he entered the room. He didn't listen to all my symptoms and it felt like he was in a rush to be done with the appointment. I don't know if I trust his diagnosis, but even so, I'd rather go to a doctor I feel I can trust even if they have the same diagnosis Dr. Ast did.
Nice, caring, and helpful doctor... Sweet nurses and aids... Consistently nasty and rude women at the front desk.
Felt very impersonal. The door was left open while I was seeing the doctor and nurse and other people were coming in and out. It was very uncomfortable.
Great doctor, great staff. Very knowledgable, helpful, thorough, and, best of all for a New Yorker, quick. They saw me a little quick, but when I told them I had a meeting, the doctor made sure to get me out on time.
he was great, the front desk was a bit unorganized and they just kinda had me sit there for a long time while they were working on other peoples files, which was fine, but since the office was practically empty and there was no one else in front of me, I didnt really understand why it took them so long to get me in to actually see the doctor, who had just been doing other work in his office. And they wouldn't tell me why it was taking so long either...
He's funny and quirky. Knowledgeable and cool. He made me laugh and thoroughly explained my test results to me and answered all of my questions. Highly recommend.
Office could definitely benefit from a remodeling, really off-putting considering how professional and knowledgeable Dr.Ast is. Also, I think the staff whould be in standard nurses or medical uniforms, they looked like they were in street clothes, which is again off putting for a patient. However, Dr. Ast is a knowledgeable doctor, with a great bed-side manner and I felt like he really listened to everything I said. I already recommended him to a friend.
Didnt really get the full follow up because I didnt have my x rays.
Dr. Ast was great - his staff, not so much.
He is an excellent professional and always give the needed attention to my pains.
The process felt very unprofessional - for all my issues, he tried to force another doctor in his practice on me for the same day. The whole process felt like a money grab.
I had to wait a while and he kinda rushed me through but he was thorough at the same time. He gave me referrals to specific doctors as I needed.
Dr. Ast was nice... bedside manner was fine. However, he gave me the wrong diagnosis. I didn't feel confident in the diagnosis he gave me, so I went to see someone else the following day and got a completely different diagnosis. The second doc prescribed me meds, which really helped. Additionally, the office itself appeared a bit disorderly.
I had to insist on the allergy testing but that was because I took an antihystamine prior to the visit due to an allergic reaction and he was not sure it would work. But he tried it and I was able to get my results. He ordered blood work as well. Very thorough. The office staff is also pleasant and efficient.
Dr. Ast was fair, considerate, efficient and kind. I would go back. The facility was clean enough, though not special, but Dr. Ast is a good man and a great doctor.
Office didnt seem as clean as a doctors office should be
He was personable and friendly. Very informative!!!
As usual he is wonderful--kind, professional and caring. The best!!!
He was extremely professional and warm. His staff is top rate.
Dr. Ast is a great doctor. He is kind and compassionate--great bedside manner! Office staff is pleasant as well.
Friendly, professional, and fast! I will definitely be going back and would recommend him highly!
Office didn't look the greatest ( a bit outdated) but Dr. Ast is a very nice doctor! Seemed very knowledgeable and had a lot of preliminary suggestions on how to alleviate my rash/allergies. Although the cause is still unknown as it was my first consultation and first time having allergy type symptoms, I left less concerned about my issue. Mr. Ast asked me if I had questions at the end of our consultation which was very much appreciated. Waiting time wasn't too bad ( a little over 30 minutes) considering the receptionist mentioned Thursdays is one of his busiest days. I also overheard her tell someone that patients should allot 2 hrs when they come to see Dr. Ast as he is usually running an hour behind. Overall, I would highly recommend Dr. Ast!
Dr. Ast was very friendly, and my checkup was reasonably quick. I had to sit in the waiting room and then the examination room for a little longer than I would have liked, but overall it was a smooth experience.
Great doctor, did a very thorough checkup.
He is reasonable and listens to me and my condition. His manner is decent and low key.
Second time seeing Dr. Ast. Both times have been great and I've gotten in and out of the office quickly. No complaints!
Comfortable. He listens my questions and answers to them.
unexpected pleasant. Very proffesional and thorough.
Referral from coworker. Glad you're using ZocDoc because making appointments is a pain.
Extremely satisfied, Dr. Ast was very thorough, explained everything that he was doing and why. I went to Dr. Ast for allergy testing -- did not expect to get the actual test just a consult -- but he did all the testing, which I am happy about so I did not need to make another appointment.
Extremely nice and efficient, Dr. Ast was very knowledgable and really took an interest in the appointment. highly recommend.
Appt. went faster than I thought it would. Quick, efficient doctor. Thanks.
He was incredible. Very professional yet amicable.
If you book via ZocDoc, call and make sure they make time for you!
It was terrific He is so knowing, kind and professional Love Him!!!
Very friendly, very throughough. Literally, did like 2-3 extra just to double/triple check to make sure everything was clear and ok. Friendly, informative.
he was pretty clumsy when administering one of the treatments and didn't really give me a good hypothesis for my problem and tried to make me come back another time to get something i needed right then, presumably for more money. waste of my time
Dr. Ast was great at doing a very thorough consultation & diagnosis. Office staff is very friendly. Shows genuine concern for the health of his patients.
I found Dr. Ast to be thorough. He has a geeky quality that is endearing.
Took his time to explain everything in detail.
Dr. Ast was meeting with drug reps right in the waiting room during the time when he should have been meeting with me, his new patient. Even the receptionist had to chide him and tell him it might be rude to have this drug meeting right in front of all of his patients. He just seemed a little clueless about how to be around patients. Receptionists weren't out and out rude to me or anyone of the other patients while I was there, but they weren't very...receptive. Not welcoming at all. They were all chomping on their food (lunch time) and the waiting room smelled awful. I'm not going back.
He was very thorough and precise. Didnt get frustrated with me when I asked him to repeat himself or elaborate, etc. I felt very comfortable with him. He told me things I needed to know. He explained test results with me and not once try to rush anything or rush me out of his office LIKE MOST DOCTORS!! He also is right around the corner from my job, so its very convenient for me. I WILL go back again. =)
Very intelligent, thoughtful and caring.
Doc is great, examined me thoroughly and spent a decent amount (15mins) with me. His front desk staff is not that great though - seemed far more desirous to chat on the phone than talk to a waiting patient.
Very thorough and knowledgeable. Nice guy too.
Front staff was not super friendly, but not rude. Dr. Ast was great. He explains everything along the way so you know exactly what's happening and any steps you can take to fix any problems. Will definitely be returning.
It was very good
very nice and patient!!!
The examination was thorough. I had given up on another allergist and was happy to find one who gave me the time my situation needed.
Very honest and helpful with my condition. Especially since it was my first visit to an allergist ever.
Very professional and knowledgeable.
It was my first visit, and Dr. Ast is friendly and straight forward, spending his time fleshing out my background medical history and prioritizing my maladies. The visit was less than a half hour and I will be returning to see him in a few weeks.
Dr. Ast listened to my concerns, made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. Office staff was very helpful and friendly and I didn't have to wait to get in to see the doctor.
Good explanation on symptom. Ask and explain how he checks symptom before he starts exam. Employees are all low key. Quite office.
A great allergy doctor.
Very nice, extremely understanding of my situation, and helpful. I would recommend Dr. Ast without hesitation.
Full explanation of illness. Fast administrative procedure.
I would say it was one of the best experiences I have had with a physician. He and his staff took their time to test for a number of conditions. He also performed an examination of my sinuses (put a scope down my nasal cavity), and it was very gently done.
it was very rushed, he was busy with other patients at the same time while seeing me. I felt like anything I asked he wrote out another referral for me to see someone else. Ended up walking out with 4 referrals which all cost more money.
The office was packed, the staff seemed bored when they spoke to me, and it took over an hour to see the doctor. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
Excellent doctor, very easy going. Staff was also ver attentive and helpful. My insurance was accepted without any problems.
Dr. Ast was a nice guy but the office pushed too many millions of medicines on me, that I didn't need. The prices got very expensive and considering I don't have very serious asthma, I felt I was getting hustled. Have found another doctor to be my GP.
VEry good visit, i'm finally getting answers on my condition...
He was very thorough with a good friendly manner. His staff is all very nice.
Dr Ast. was great, I would definitely recommend him. I waited less than half an hour (and only made the appointment earlier that day) and he was quick and efficient about diagnosing my problem.
Disclaimer: I visited Dr. Ast for an annual physical and, as such, I do not believe my review reflects upon his skills and abilities as a rheumatologist or as an allergist. The physical was mostly thorough, however I was told to conduct a self-examination of my more intimate areas, which I am typically accustomed to having done by the doctor (standard for a male physical exam). Also, while I mentioned my interest in having a full blood-work check when setting up the appointment, I was not instructed to fast before my exam. I realize I should have set my own reminder to fast, but I would have appreciated an email of phone call from the office. Dr. Ast was very kind, and again my review only reflects the one physical I had. He made a referral for a dermatologist and provided a long list of nearby offices I could use to schedule another appointment (through ZocDoc!).
Always a pleasure to see! Very knowledgable about everything!
I really liked Dr. Ast. He was informative, helpful, compassionate, and friendly. His staff is nice too. The office seemed slightly disorganized and out-of-date.
Very knowledgeable doctor that would explain everything thoroughly as much as he could. Took care to pay attention to all questions asked and was very detailed in his physical. Anything that was in another specialty he would recommend someone else rather than give a guess at the condition (I really like truthful people, it is better that he recommends a specialist than to pretend he knows everything). Made sure I was very comfortable and had intelligent conversation. He let me see the physical therapist in the building without any sort of extra charge
Amazing. Every professional. I called for a follow up and within 15 minutes on a Friday evening I received a call back. All his staff are amazing. They are very hands on with their patients. will recommend for everyone to go.
I went at lunch to see Dr. Ast and the wait time was very reasonable, which I was happy about. Dr. Ast is to the point, doesn't let you talk much but knows what he is talking about. After he makes his diagnosis, he boots you out the door, leaving little room or time for questions and answers (if you had any). Didn't get the impression it was a particularly thorough exam but I did take his advice and eventually got better. Dr. Ast is not the warmest/most reassuring person that will coddle you, so if that's what you need from a Doc, go elsewhere.
Frederick Ast is a nice man, i do like him. I thought he would have been more equiped and knowledgeable to do certain things like checking the circualtion in my legs, but he had told me he's not a vascular surgon. But i have co workers who went to their primary care doctor who have had their circulation checked in the legs, so i don't know ? But anyway he is ok in my book.
A great clinician! highly recommended
Doctor didn't introduce himself, and he proceeded to take client calls during my visit. Totally not cool. Seems like a good doc, but waiting when you have an appointment is annoying and the office should call to let you know they are running behind. If the Docs time is important, so is mine. I did like him, enough to go back.
Good doctor, very capable - office felt a bit cramped. The room I was in for the appointment was also used for lab work, so nurses came in and out during examination.
Dr Ast and his staff has always been wonderful to me!!! I highly recommend!!
Nice, friendly office, and Dr. Ast was a good listener and seemed very knowledgeable. He also brought in one of the therapists in his office, who I will likely go back to see, too. I may have finally found a good GP candidate near my office.
Really caring, kind, and thorough. I highly recommend Dr. Ast. His staff is friendly and helpful.
A very attentive, experienced, knowledgeable doctor.
He was very thorough in my consultation. I went for pain in my wrist, and I had a blood test done on the spot, he sent me for x-rays, and scheduled physiotherapy for a couple of days later.
I came to Dr. Ast with a 3 week old cough that woukldnt go away. Dr. Ast didn't dismiss me and throw a z-pack at me. He took time to go through all of my symptoms as well as do a variety of tests that could narrow down the cause of my cough right then and there. I left with a new understanding of my illness as well as information on how to treat it. Dr. Ast is really thorough and genuinely cares.
Great doctor, very personable and has a mastery of his profession. Highly recommend him.
Frederick seems like a nice guy - but for whatever reason... maybe it was the time of day - maybe it was his normal habit - but he just seemed disinterested... hasty to make a diagnosis and quick with the "uh huh - uh huhs"... like he wasn't really listening.
Dr. Ast is extremely thorough and made sure I understood the diagnosis and took the time to answer all of my questions.
I thought the doctor was borderline rude and clearly didn't have much time to talk/listen to me.
Dr. Ast was attentive to my needs and very nice. His staff is definitely less professional than I am used to, but I haven't had any major run-ins. Yet.
I was at his office for over 3 hours and underwent a number of unnecessary tests that ended up costing me a ton of money! It was very inconsiderate and at the end of the day, there were no answers. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Frederick Ast and will never return to his offices again.
Very friendly and genuinly caring.
Very personable, caring and thoroough.
Dr. Ast is very knowledgable, thorough and personable. The problem is his staff. There's at least 4 or 5 ladies sitting behind the front counter but I've had to remind them 4 times to get something done. They are very rude and imcompetent!
Knowledgeable one stop for a primary care doc, distinct rheumatoid arthritic conditions, AND physical therapy. Don't be put off by the front desk staff, their attitude is not permanent, and they were extremely helpful with getting insurance issues handled. As someone who has had many docs, I highly reccommend this office. I even switched my Primary Care doc to be him...that is saying alot.
Thoroughly professional and well educated. Good doctor/patient behavior. Highly recommended.
Dr. Ast is a very kind and is easy to talk to. I was there for a physical, that I needed for my charity volunteer work and he was actually interested in hearing about it!
Dr. Ast was friendly, efficient, timely, and flexible for future appointments.
He was professional and friendly, and everything was handled in a timely manner.
the nurses were not the most professional at times, but I thought Dr. Ast was most helpful and answered my questions. I would probably be a return patient and recommend him to others.
To the point, professional.
I found the atmosphere professional yet friendly. I will be happy to have Dr. Ast as my doctor.
Very knowledgeable doctor,i felt very comfortable.
Dr. Ast was really easygoing and very personable. He and the other Dr. treated my Mono, even though the are allergists and rheumatologists. It was probably the sickest I have ever been, but the experience and the care I was given greatly appreciated.
