Getting to know Dr. Gabriel Morales

Dr. Morales was born in Queens, NY, to a father who was exiled from Cuba and a mother who immigrated from Colombia. He graduated from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, with a BA in Psychology. Through his volunteer work assisting doctoral candidates at Rutgers Graduate School of Applied Psychology, he gained an early glimpse of what was to follow. After completing his undergraduate degree, he worked at an educational center tutoring, mentoring, and building academic confidence with children and adolescents. He then traveled to San Francisco to pursue his doctorate in clinical psychology at Argosy University, where he worked with diverse children and families in both inner-city Oakland and San Francisco.
While completing his dissertation, he worked as an Intake Coordinator at the Family Service Agency of San Francisco – Geriatric Outpatient, broadening his experience across the lifespan. He and his wife later relocated back east to Chelsea, NY, where he began providing treatment to a dually and triply diagnosed population living in skilled medical facilities across NYC. He now resides in Montclair, NJ, and has a specialty in both depression and sub-acute rehabilitation, treating clients who are in the process of rehabilitating from severe medical illnesses and post-surgical aftercare. He works to empower them on their journey to heal both physically and emotionally.

This was my first visit. I liked him a lot. He seemed very down-to-earth, which I really like. Also, another thing that I really liked was that he met me where I was at: He allowed me to talk about exactly the stuff that brought me into therapy, as opposed to asking me all kinds of unrelated intake questions that some big clinics tend to do. He told me on the phone that we'll hit the ground running during our appointment, and it felt like we did exactly that.
