Dr. Malhotra is quadruple board-certified in electrodiagnostic medicine, neuromuscular medicine, brain injury medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) – also known as “physiatry.” He specializes in restoring function using evidence-based approaches to diagnose and treat patients suffering from musculoskeletal and neuromuscular issues. “When I meet a new patient, I invest a decent amount of time learning about them, unearthing issues that may not initially seem relevant, and dive deep into their experiences with prior treatments. Then I conduct a fairly thorough examination so I can answer their questions about what’s going on and what the next steps might be. I try to help them understand how they can best help themselves with the fewest procedures or medications.” By looking at each individual as a whole person, Dr. Malhotra attempts to evaluate the relationships of all moving body parts (i.e. biomechanics) to determine the root cause of difficult-to-diagnose pain. He then designs a treatment plan featuring non-surgical options which are effective for most patients. With a minimum of procedures and medications – and by emphasizing patient education – Dr. Malhotra empowers patients to help themselves. “I also take pride in both curating their care and establishing communication with their other providers. This interdisciplinary approach takes more time but tends to lead to better outcomes.” Dr. Malhotra’s clinical encounters are not only informed by his wealth of practical experience and academic knowledge, but also from years of spending time at the bedside of veterans, family, and friends in need. At Maxim, Dr. Malhotra’s ultimate vision is to offer primary physicians in the community a “one-stop shop” for their musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal needs including evaluation, diagnostic testing, and most importantly, triaging to the appropriate subspecialists to ensure invasive procedures are limited to only when absolutely necessary.
