In research, Dr. Velasco is interested in medical education and ringside medicine. Dr. Velasco is a USA boxing ringside physician, and is the author of book chapters related to boxing in the sports medicine textbook Specific Sports-Related Injuries and in The Association of Ringside Physicians Manual of Combat Sports Medicine. Dr. Velasco has also served as a volunteer attending physician at the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership, a free clinic in New York City run by Mount Sinai medical students.
