What should a new client know about working with you?

Collaborative and Person-Centered: I view therapy as a shared process where we work together to explore your concerns, establish goals, and develop meaningful strategies to address them. Your perspectives, priorities, and goals remain central to our work. Strengths-Based: I emphasize identifying and building upon your existing strengths and resources. By leveraging your natural capabilities, we can effectively navigate challenges and support ongoing personal growth. Evidence-Based: I incorporate clinically proven, research-supported techniques to ensure that our therapeutic approach is effective, appropriate, and grounded in best practices. Holistic: I consider your overall well-being by taking into account not only your symptoms, but also your relationships, environment, lifestyle, and broader life circumstances. Supportive and Non-Judgmental: I strive to create a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can openly express yourself. It is important to me that you feel heard, respected, and genuinely understood. Goal-Oriented: Together, we will develop clear and achievable goals to guide our sessions and provide a framework for measuring progress over time. Culturally Sensitive: I value and respect cultural diversity, identities, and beliefs. Your unique cultural background will be honored and thoughtfully integrated into our therapeutic work. Flexible: I tailor my therapeutic approach to your individual needs and preferences, adjusting techniques and methods based on what is most effective and comfortable for you. By sharing these core aspects of my therapeutic approach, I hope to provide clarity and transparency so you feel informed, supported, and empowered as we begin our work together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first several sessions, I will gather comprehensive information about your current concerns, medical and family history, and any relevant psychosocial factors. This allows me to understand your symptoms within the context of your overall life and health. Diagnostic Evaluation: I use standardized diagnostic criteria—such as the DSM-5—to assess and diagnose mental health conditions. This involves discussing your symptoms in detail and may include psychological assessments or questionnaires to gather additional information. Treatment Planning After completing the diagnostic evaluation, we will work together to develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include medication management, psychotherapy referrals (when appropriate), lifestyle recommendations, and other therapeutic interventions that best support your needs. Medication Management If medication is recommended, I will explain the reasoning behind the prescription, potential side effects, expected benefits, and the typical timeline for improvement. We will monitor your response closely and adjust your medication as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness. Talk Therapy (if applicable) Although psychiatrists primarily focus on medication management, I understand the important role psychotherapy plays in mental health treatment. When beneficial, I may incorporate brief supportive counseling or motivational interviewing into our sessions. These approaches help address concerns, provide psychoeducation, and support your overall treatment goals. Ongoing Evaluation and Adjustment Your treatment plan is dynamic. We will regularly review your progress, reassess your symptoms, and make adjustments as needed. This allows us to respond effectively to changes and ensure that your care remains aligned with your evolving needs. Collaboration and Communication
