Dr. German Ascani, MD

Dr. German Ascani, MD

Psychiatrist
1660 Lafayette St, Ste 1, Denver, CO
When the usual treatments haven’t worked, it’s easy to feel stuck. I’m a board-certified psychiatrist with 20 years of experience helping people with complex and treatment-resistant conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, and psychosis. My care looks at the whole person, mind and body. I pair proven, evidence-based treatment with newer approaches when they’re a good fit. I’m thoughtful about medication in both directions. Sometimes the right medication makes all the difference. Other times, carefully reducing or tapering medications is the better path. When it’s clinically suitable, I also offer psychedelic-assisted options such as ketamine-based treatment. I’ve worked as a study physician on a Phase 3 clinical trial of MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD, and I train other clinicians in this work. I’m an Adjoint Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at CU Denver, and I see patients in English and Spanish.

What should a new client know about working with you?

One size does not fit all. I’ll listen to your whole story, including what you’ve already tried. Then we’ll make informed decisions together. My goal is to help you build resilience and feel more in charge of your own healing. I’ll always be honest about what I think will help, even if that means pointing you toward a different kind of care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with an in-depth first visit to understand your history, symptoms, and goals. From there, we create a plan together and meet more often early on while we fine-tune it. As things improve, visits space out, and we keep adjusting as your needs change. With your permission, I’ll coordinate with your therapist or other providers so your care stays connected.
