About Dr. Gilberto Izquierdo-Santiago

I believe one of the most important aspects of medicine is an effective partnership between a patient and physician. It is essential to treat patients as whole persons, considering their cultural and ethnic backgrounds as well as other important aspects of their lives, such as their family, the community they live in, their religious beliefs, and their trust in the medical system. Most importantly, I want to listen to my patients and help them understand the how and why of their condition so they can feel empowered to make the best decisions for their health and wellness. I earned my Doctor of Medicine and Master's in Medical Science from Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine, and my Bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico. I completed my Family Medicine residency at St. Luke's Hospital of Bethlehem. In my youth, I had the privilege of serving people in need in Puerto Rico and on two trips to Nicaragua. I saw firsthand how poor access to healthcare affected many lives, which inspired my passion to serve others through a career in medicine. I recently moved from Puerto Rico to the Lehigh Valley area for my residency training three years ago, so I am still fairly new to the continental U.S. Having lived in Puerto Rico all my life, I was very active with my church and the Puerto Rican community and participated in several mission trips to Nicaragua. Currently, I am actively serving the Lehigh Valley community through my church in the Bethlehem area. Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and two boys at playgrounds, trails, and in daily life. I am a coffee enthusiast who enjoys making coffee for myself and others and love talking about it. I also enjoy playing piano and guitar at home and at my church.
