Getting to know Dr. Gillian Reierson

"A primary goal of my practice is to aid in the alleviation of suffering. As your psychiatrist, I will meet with you first to perform a thorough evaluation. By listening to your concerns and getting to know you, I will be able to formulate an assessment and develop a treatment plan. We will then collaborate on which treatment options work best for you. My approach usually involves a combination of talk therapy with medications to target symptoms. I believe in prescribing medications conservatively when possible — using the least number and the lowest effective doses. Some issues are simple and straightforward to diagnose and treat, while others require patience and creativity to address. I received my MD and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Miami and then completed residency training in adult psychiatry followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford University. While at Stanford, I received training in psychopharmacology and gained experience in a number of different types of therapies for adults including psychodynamic psychotherapy, time limited psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. During my fellowship, I also received training in several therapies for children including play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, parent management training, and family based treatment for eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia)."
