Getting to know Gina Cain
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner, board-certified to treat New Jersey residents across the lifespan. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Felician University and completed my Master's in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing at Monmouth University. My primary focus is the management of psychiatric medication for teens and adults. When you schedule with me, we will meet for approximately one hour to discuss what is going on in your life and review your mental health history. We will also talk about your preferences in care and your goals. My patients are encouraged to reach out with any questions or concerns, and I prefer to speak directly with every patient. You will find that I am responsive via the portal to manage any needs that arise or to schedule an earlier appointment if needed. If you book with me, please be on the lookout for an email with forms and the appointment link.
*****IMPORTANT: We reserve the right to cancel any appointments after 48 hours of Zocdoc booking if we have not received the proper insurance information. This policy is due to numerous appointment requests followed by a lack of response from those who booked, resulting in missed slots for patients who truly want to attend. Please ensure your insurance information is correct on Zocdoc before booking and be alert for emails. As a courtesy, we send multiple emails and often call, but cannot leave voicemails due to HIPAA regulations. If there is no response, we are forced to cancel the appointment.
What should a new client know about working with you?
As a nurse of 10+ years, I truly respect patient autonomy, and I love the dynamics of a collaborative plan of care. I have always put my patient's first. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I sought out every extra educational opportunity including certification by examination for critical care nursing, progressive care, and medical surgical (all fields in which I worked). I graduated first in my masters level nursing class, which is a direct result of my commitment to provide best care. People deserve someone who is committed to their wellness, by staying up to date with medications and best practice recommendations. I have recently completed numerous educational programs to increase the quality of care that I provide. This includes achieving my perinatal mental health certification, completion of the master of psychopharmacology program at the neuroscience education institute, completion of psychiatric disorders in women (across the lifespan) program offered by the world renowned Massachusetts General Hospital, completion of CBT training via the Beck Institute, and numerous others.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I enjoy working with a variety of people, especially those with difficulty adjusting to life's stressors. I am well-equipped to work with nurses and other healthcare workers effected by COVID-19. I am forensically trained and understand the privacy concerns of law enforcement and first responders. I like to incorporate CBT and behavioral activation into medication management sessions with my patients.
