“I have been working with Dr Gina DePalo weekly for a little over a year now. I truly cannot say enough positive things about my experience working with her and I have worked with a few therapists in the past. She creates such a welcoming and inclusive environment that you really feel willing to open up and share what is on your mind. She has helped me get through many obstacles that I have had the past year (anxiety, depression, break up, relationships, family dynamics, etc.) The best thing I can say is that she really listens and remembers what you told her the week before with a lot of clarity. The work I have done with Dr DePalo I can honestly say has made such a positive impact on my life and I am lucky to have found her practice. ”

Getting to know Dr. Gina DePalo

Therapy is a humbling endeavor, and I see myself not as having the answers, but knowing how to ask you new questions. I hope to strengthen the part of you that wants something to be different, and help you identify and head towards whatever “different” might be. I listen well, lead with my curiosity, and bring attention to the parts of yourself that may feel hidden or out of focus. Together, we can help you move towards what you might otherwise shy away from, understand the source of your challenges – not just treat symptoms – and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I believe in the transformative power of high-quality, individualized psychotherapy to create profound, lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice is made up of adolescents, young adults, and young professionals. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic treatment, attachment theory, and relational psychotherapy. On the whole, this means our work would often focus on your relationships, from earliest to present day, and how you function and feel within them. I may blend CBT, ACT, or mindfulness principles to offer concrete skills for more immediate relief of suffering or relationship enhancement. While I treat a variety of concerns, I most often see those working through depression, anxiety, trauma, or relationship issues. I have a specialty in working with eating and body image concerns. I have niche expertise in working with concerns related to bariatric surgery. I approach all eating and body related work through a Health At Every Size (HAES) lens. I am LGBTQIA+ allied and often see those exploring sexual identity, gender, and sexual concerns. Prior to private practice, I was a staff psychologist at New York University. I work well with undergraduate and graduate students, and have much experience working with the unique experiences and pressures of being a law student.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The primary indicator of successful therapy is the interpersonal fit between us. I pay close attention to ways that I can make you feel safe to share things you may have never before said out loud. You can expect me to ask lots of questions about your experience to make sure that I get it right. I toggle between your history, your current conflicts, and our experience with each other to help us enrich your understanding of yourself. I don't think of therapy in terms of optimization and efficiency. The kind of life-changing, transformative work people often seek comes from a deep-rooted relationship unfolding over time.

Dr. DePalo is incredibly empathetic and warm. She makes me feel comfortable enough to discuss anything and she has truly helped me work through so much.
Dr. DePalo is everything one could want in a therapist--a thoughtful and empathetic listener while at the same time experienced and professional. In working with her over the course of four years, she was instrumental to the maintenance of my mental health and personal growth.
I have been working with Gina for about two years now and she has helped me through some incredibly difficult times. This previous session we had was a lot about navigating having feelings for someone new after a break up, as well as standing firm on my morals instead of people pleasing. Gina is always incredibly helpful and kind, and I truly look forward to our sessions.
I returned to Dr. DePalo several years after only having had a few sessions with her. There is something so calming and affirming about her practice that I was not able to find anywhere else. Dr. DePalo offers both practical measures for learning to consider yourself in a healthy manner, while also engaging with you in a way that does not make you feel pathologized or as though you are "too much." She also handles the administrative process with grace, which, if you are like me, is usually a good indicator of whether a practice is the right fit for me or not. I recommend her for anyone beginning or advanced in their journey to gaining introspection.
I saw Gina regularly for a couple years in college and to this day she is the best therapist I have had. She will make you feel seen and understood (and shed some well needed tears). If I lived in the same state I would still be seeing her. Could not give a higher recommendation.
Gina is hands down the best therapist I have worked with. If I still lived in New York I would 100% still be seeing her. Highly recommend.
Honestly, Gina really changed my life! I had tried many therapists before her and she was the only one that finally cured me completely. It took one year, so I recommend being patient and believing in her work. It has been 3 years since we had our last session and I have been really great. She is really wonderful. Thank you Gina!!
Dr. DePalo has been my favorite therapist to work with. She is so great at listening and offering the best recommendations. She truly shows how much she cares about her patients, and I have experienced a lot of progress under her care. She is always on time and professional in her practice.
I don't have enough good things to say about Gina. I came to her at a calmer time in my life because I wanted to do some deeper work on my past traumas and she was so accommodating and went above and beyond to help me sort through everything. When my life became a bit more tumultuous, she was also great at helping me navigate that. I have seen Gina in both in-person and virtual environments and she was the utmost professional while still exuding a safe and friendly vibe that made it so easy to share things with her. She tells it how it is and is extremely knowledgable in her insights. I would recommend her to anyone in search of a new therapist.
Dr. DePalo is an absolutely wonderful human being. She always pushed me to want to better myself. She always kept up with me even when i pull away. She is one of the only therapists that “forced” me to talk about my realities and i’m sure she would tend to anyone with what needs they had and for me it was that. She worked with me my first year of college until my third and helped me in ways i didn’t know were possible. She is very sympathetic at all times while for me still being “stern” to make sure i truly received what i needed during this moment. Although i have used words like forced and stern those are things that i need in order to face my internal problems and she recognized that almost immediately. i absolutely love Dr DePalo and her work and would recommend her to anyone who needed it. (thank you for all your help)
During Dr. DePaulo's time at NYU, I received short-term treatment from her via talk therapy, which was helpful in navigating my circumstances at the time and understanding my conditions/diagnosis. While talk therapy was the main form of treatment at the time, I would be open to exploring other forms of treatment she offers!
