Getting to know Grace Soistman

Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and graduate of George Mason University, licensed to serve clients in Virginia, Washington DC, and Iowa. I bring nearly two decades of clinical experience across nursing and psychiatric care, beginning my career in the Philippines, continuing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and practicing in the United States since 2016. As a Filipino American and first generation immigrant, I bring clinical expertise alongside lived understanding of cultural nuance, resilience, and the challenges many individuals face while navigating systemic barriers, life transitions, and emotional stress. I specialize in helping adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, mood challenges, and difficulty with focus or stress regulation who are seeking thoughtful psychiatric care and clear guidance. Many of my clients are high functioning individuals who appear capable on the outside but internally feel exhausted or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. My approach combines neuroscience informed psychiatric evaluation, collaborative medication management, and practical psychological insight to help you feel more grounded, supported, and confident in your treatment plan. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I work collaboratively with you to understand deeper patterns while building practical strategies that support long term stability and growth. Medication is one of many tools, prescribed thoughtfully with careful attention to avoiding unnecessary polypharmacy. When clinically appropriate, I provide medical cannabis consultation, Suboxone treatment as part of a comprehensive psychiatric treatment plan, focusing on safety, individualized assessment, and integration with overall mental health care. My style is clear, direct, and grounded in compassion, helping you feel understood while moving forward with intention.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Grace always makes sure to ask if I'm okay with our treatment plan. I feel included and empowered in my treatment decisions
I've really enjoyed getting to know Grace and feel well monitored under her care.
Really good psychiatrist—especially if you have a complex medical history!
Incredibly encouraging and bright. A real light and has helped me tremendously.
Grace was okay at first but due to a medication shortage in my area I was never able to get my prescription. She left communications with me to her secretary, and neither Grace nor her secretary is working with me to get me the treatment I need. I needed medication and was hoping for therapy with it, I have a demanding job and this is negatively impacting my life, but after multiple pharmacies were out of stock she abandoned me. Only reason I can imagine is that they have made negative assumptions about why I have been unable to get my meds. I feel I am being treated like an addict in search of drugs when I’ve never remotely had any such history in my life. It’s wrong and hurtful, and feels discriminatory, especially considering that I am happy to try mediations that are not controlled substances. It’s a shame that I should even need to justify myself when shortages are a known issue. Now I have to start over with a new provider. This was a waste of money, effort, and of 4 months

Grace made me feel like I was being gaslit. I have been on ADHD medication for over 10 years, she needed me to recount over 10 years of medications and dosages in order to prescribe my refill. She seemed dubious when I explained that no, my home psychiatrist didn't need to retest me for ADHD when I asked for a refill every 30 days. She told me that I needed to completely quit marijuana and alcohol, both of which I consume well under the safety guidelines for adults, and when I explained that I only drank after completing my day, she said "What I'm hearing from you is that you know this is bad for you but you don't care or don't want to quit." If she thinks all of her patients are completely abstaining from substances I would like to inform her that that is certainly not the case. She called me to confirm the miligram dosages of earlier medications (again, from over 10 years ago), and I called her back twice and emailed her and heard nothing.

Off to a great start. I was nervous about my first visit but she was very friendly, attentive, and caring. Looking forward to my next appointment.

Grace is amazing. She listens to what I have to say and treats me like a teammate and an equal in making decisions on my care. She is knowledgeable and intelligent but also super kind, caring, and warm. I felt comfortable with her right away.
Amazing experience. Quick and to the point - I needed someone to refill prescriptions as I am new to the area. She was effective and efficient while also acknowledging my own lived experience, and and creating a compassionate space to be heard. As someone who has seen many psych providers, I have struggled to find one who is truly empathetic and authentic, and I am thinking I have finally found just that!
