Gregory J Hicken, MD FAAOS is a board-certified, Mayo Clinic-fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience in general orthopaedics, sports medicine, performing arts medicine, and robotic hip and knee joint replacement surgery. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas, completed his internship in General Surgery at Dallas Methodist Hospital, and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern. He then completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Hicken served 16 years on active duty with the USAF, retiring as a Major. He began practicing in Utah in 1994, initially in Logan, expanding to Southern Utah in 2016. He maintains homes in both Logan and Washington. He is certified and experienced with all FDA-approved robotic technologies. In Southern Utah, he uses the NAVIO and CORI robots, along with FDA-approved total and partial knee and total hip implants rated for a 30-year service life. Dr. Hicken offers general orthopaedic care, fracture care, musculoskeletal surgery, and treats athletes and performing artists. Joint replacement surgeries are often outpatient, same-day procedures, allowing patients to safely recover at home. Most robotic-assisted joint replacements can be performed safely in a free-standing ambulatory surgery center. He performs surgery at St. George Surgical Center, where Utah’s only Smith + Nephew NAVIO and CORI robots are available. If inpatient care is needed, Dr. Hicken has privileges at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nevada, where the robot is transferred for use. Dr. Hicken serves his community through various activities, church leadership, and clinical research trials. He sang five years with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and currently sings with the American Festival Chorus in Logan. In St. George, he and his wife avidly support musical theater and concerts.
