Getting to know Dr. Gregory Petronzi

I believe that no universal way of treating people exists. Rather, an individual's cultural identity, personality traits, and presenting issues guide my approach in working with each client. My therapeutic intent is to treat the person, not the problem. Accordingly, I adhere to a wellness perspective and a positive psychology framework to emphasize strengths and help people develop their sense of self in a collaborative and supportive way. I have published research examining the extent to which different therapy approaches might work better for different people, and I use this research to inform my work. I currently teach therapy to graduate students at New York University while maintaining a private practice as well as a new group practice called Well Minded Psychology. I earned my PhD in Counseling Psychology from Seton Hall University, and both my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness and my bachelor’s degree from New York University. I have been working in the field since 2006 with adults of all ages in both individual and couples therapy. I have extensive experience working specifically with anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship issues, men's health, and trauma. I am currently accepting new clients and would be happy to discuss the possibility of working together. Please note that I am not in network with any insurance companies.

Unlike other therapists I’ve seen and didn’t work with, I felt connected to Greg from the start. He was genuinely interested in what was going on in my life. He treated me with warmth and empathy. He helped me through a very difficult time in my life. Can’t recommend him enough if you want to work with a therapist that really cares about you.
I came to Dr. Petronzi feeling overwhelmed with work and relationship stress. He helped me see how I contributed to my stress rather than always externalizing my issues. After three months, I felt capable of managing previously anxiety-inducing situations. I renewed my self-confidence and gained valuable perspective.
My boyfriend and I saw Dr Petronzi for a few months, to address a specific issue. Dr. P was phenomenal - smoothly helped guide the conversation and poked and prodded us to get to the bottom of the issue that brought us in. My boyfriend doesn’t have any therapy background but he felt comfortable from the get go. The practice was extremely easy and user-friendly to work with. Highly recommend and very grateful to Dr Petronzi for his help. Hope to come back for some maintenance down the line!
