About Dr. Guillermo Garcia

Philosophy of Care I stress the importance of communication between my patients, their family members, and me. Whether I am with a patient in the office or at the bedside, I spend as much time as necessary to ensure all their questions are answered. It's important that patients and families know what to expect before, during, and after surgery. Why I Entered Medicine When I was growing up, I had the utmost respect for our family physician. In high school, I joined a program that allowed students to rotate through different departments in a local hospital. It gave me the rare opportunity, as a high school student, to witness an open-heart procedure during the surgery rotation. That's when surgery piqued my interest. I realized surgery was the area of medicine that allows people to see almost immediate symptom relief, which appealed to me. Education and Training I earned my Bachelor's degree from Baylor University and my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas, Houston. I completed my residency in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Texas, Houston. Personal Interests I have three children. I enjoy spending my free time with them reading, playing, and just watching them grow up.
