Gurinder Shahi, BCBA

Behavior Analyst
CA
I’m a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in San Jose with over 8 years of experience working with children ages 1–12. I use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA therapy) to help kids build important life skills and to support families in making everyday life a little easier and more joyful. I work with children on many different goals, such as learning to communicate their needs (through speech and/or AAC devices), toilet training, daily living skills, and following instructions. I also help reduce challenging behaviors like tantrums, aggression, or biting, while teaching safer and more positive ways to express themselves. A big part of my work is also building community safety, social skills, and both expressive and receptive communication. When I first began in the field, I was actually pursuing further education in genetics. At the same time, I worked as a behavior technician—and within just a few months, I saw incredible growth in the child I was supporting. That experience was so meaningful that I shifted my career path completely, deciding to dedicate myself to ABA and eventually become a BCBA. Watching children make progress—whether it’s a first word, more independence, or a calmer family routine—is still the most rewarding part of what I do. I provide support in the home, school, and community, and I collaborate closely with families as well as other providers on the child’s care team (such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and teachers). Working together helps create an interdisciplinary approach so each child has consistent, well-rounded support across all areas of life. Every child has unique strengths, and I believe in meeting them where they are and building from there. I love being part of the journey and helping kids and families feel more confident and supported.
