Dr. Hattie Runzheimer is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, board-certified adult and gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, critical care registered nurse, and clinical faculty at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. Hattie is passionate about both spectrums of healthcare involving physical and mental illnesses. She continues to work in intensive care units throughout South Florida’s Miami-Dade and Broward counties. As a dedicated clinical faculty member, she teaches undergraduate BSN and graduate PMHNP students. She is always advocating for innovations in healthcare, including the integration of behavioral medicine, trauma-informed care, and suicide prevention. Her DNP capstone project focused on human trafficking education and the implementation of a standardized assessment tool for emergency department nurses at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Her life goal is to continue learning, helping, and teaching others. Hattie enjoys connecting with people and finds her work very rewarding.
Hattie graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2014). During her undergraduate studies, she volunteered in the student-run Global Brigades and provided health services to underserved communities outside of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She took elective courses in transcultural healthcare and spent a month in Hawaii traveling to different islands to learn and practice homeopathic medicine. As a registered nurse, she worked in both behavioral health and critical care inpatient units. Hattie continued advancing her professional education at the University of Miami by completing her Master of Science in Nursing in Adult and Gerontology Acute Care Nursing (2019), followed by a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (2020), and recently earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice (2022).

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Took the time to get to know me as a person, which allowed for conversation around possible prescription interactions and best practices. For example taking a supplement with a liquid high in vitamin C to increase absorption.

Hattie is my new psychiatrist after my old one went out of network. I was blown away by her kindness and not only her willingness to listen to my issues, but to actively ask about myself and my life. She was accepting of my preferred name, took the time to listen to my medication needs, and even recommended me some supplements (that she doesn’t earn commission for.) Most of my psychiatric experience is with prescribers who prescribe meds and then send me on my way, but Hattie takes the time to listen to her clients first and foremost, and give her professional advice second. It is evident she deeply cares for her clients, I highly recommend her!

Dr. Runzheimer takes time to listen to her patients problems and by doing so finds solution oriented treatment. I have been battling constant throat pain for about a year and while other drs brushed it off, she was able to find a medication that relieved my symptoms. Relating to mental health, she always takes time to see how I’m doing beyond what some survey can tell you. She truly is a one of a kind doctor!
